I have a homemade bandmill very similar to a lt40 woodmizer.  It is a manual mill now but I need to add hydraulics.  I am mainly interested in a clamp, turner, and supports.  I have a forklift so I'm not ready to put a loader on yet but may in future.  Just trying to get some ideas from how others have built these parts.  thanks for any info. :P ??? ::)

woodhick,

I would try to make a 2 plane clamp like woodmizer has on their mill. Works well to flip cants and hold those down want to spring up. Might be some pictures on the forum. If not I can take some pics this weekend.    Chain turner driven by a hydraulic motor that reverses would be nice. Supports like the LT70 would be nice they raise and lower like a cylinder.

Ron, I agree with all three of your ideas.  These are the types of accesories that I want, just wandering if anyone has built some very similar and could save me some "design" headaches. :D :o

Furby, looks great ;).  Could you tell me the center distance on the two red handled pins on your clamp, and what size cylinder did you use. Also could you get another close up picture of the turner linkage and any measurements.  Thanks a bunch! 8)

Sorry, can't help with any of that as it's not mine. It's about 4 hours from me. ::)
Actually, better think this through as doing this could REALLY devaule your mill for resale.
That claw turner had broken loose from the frame as well.
The guy in charged of this mill was offered scrap price for it. ;)

i will post pics if somebody tells me how?

rs1626,
I would be interested in your turner. How much and where you located. I would also like to see pics, but I can't help with how to post as I don't know how.   Does the two plane clamp work good enough as a turner that you dont need a seperate one? ???

Furby, I don't worry about resale as I don't plan to resale and since I built it myself it wouldn't bring as much as a name brand anyway. ;)

THANKS FURBY FOR PICTURE INFO

WOODHICK     IF THE TWO PLANE CLAMP HAD MORE VERTICAL STROKE IT WOULD BE REAL EASY TO TURN JUST ABOUT ANYTHING  BUT I DID NOT WANT ANYTHING HANGING BELOW AXLES  IM JUST WEST OF PORTSMOUTH OHIO

rs1626,
Looks good. What size rod did you use?
my thoughts at htis point are to use a 2" rod for clamp to travel on with a pc. of 3" heavy box tubing with end plates and bronze bushings for the slide. I was planning on using a double plate to move it where I noticed you used one heavy on. I hope this will keep the slide from rolling on the rod.  Then I noticed your clamp has a rod for the clamp and a cylinder to move it up and down.  I thinking of using a larger cylinder with a 11/2" or 2" rod by itself and making a clamp on top of it.  I hope to be able to use this as a turner and clamp together.  I debating on the 2" round rod  or box tubing to slide on as I'm afraid using it as a turner I may bend a 2" rod.

On your turner looks like you have regular chain with no loops or teeth to grab cant.  Did it work ok like that. Also how much would you want for it. I live about 25 mile east of Huntinton Wv.
Thanks for your time and info. ;)

I USED 1.5' ROD JUST WHAT I HAD  THE TURNER NEVER GOT FINISHED I WAS GOING TO WELD LUGS ON CHAIN  THE SMALL 12V PUMP I GOT DOES NOT HAVE ENOUGH FLOW TO RUN HYD. MOTOR  I THINK I GOT ABOUT $200.00 IN THE 2 CHINS 4 SPROCKETS BEARINGS HYD. MOTOR ETC. AND THATS WHAT I WOULD TAKE

Rs1626   great pictures and very nice work.  I was going to buy woodmizers clamp and cut my frame but after seeing what you have done. I think I may build one like yours.

Thanks
