Could a modified 066 run with a stock 088?  Has anyone compared the two?  Could the 066 have better results?  The reason I ask is I am considering having my 066 modified.  Thanks in advance.

ehp

Before someone could answer that question we need to know somethings first, is this a woodssaw or a racesaw, if a woodssaw how big of wood are we cutting , how long of bar are you going to use, type of chain, a mod. 066 runs very well but a mod. 088 is faster forsure, a stock 088 is not much to write home about

magic

Sorry about leaving out some of the specifics.  I will strictly use my 066 for a woodsaw, no racing.  Probably run a 24" or 28" bar on it with a RS Super chain, 3/8.  I cut a lot of firewood every year.  Just wondering if you guys thought it was worth it to get it modified.  Its not that I am unhappy with how my 066 runs now, but I would kind like to have a little more power, you know what I mean.  Thanks

ehp

yes it is worth building , a 066 does make more power once modified, there is a guy living close to you that does saws Dave is his name , Tony Marks posted a thread on him building a 962 , Dave lives in Luther  Mich. so it is close to you, see what he thinks

Dave Neiger here in Luther Mi. I was reading the forestry forum and saw that EHP had given you some info on me,. I thought I would touch base with you on the 066 vs the 088 saws. Ed was right on when comparing them, the 066 mod will run all over a stock 088 if they are both mods the cu. in. of the 88 will take over. I have done up quite a few 066s and have had very good success. The saws take to mods very well and have been very reliable. If you would like to get any questions answered you can give me a call at 1-231-797-5261
Luther is between Reed City and Cadillac on 131 if you are ever up this way stop by and I can let you see and run some of the saws.

I have been given a 088 as a Christmas present and I would like to have it modified. I have done minor mods to some of my old saws but i dont want to ruin my 088. I live in Nova Scotia Canada, are there any shops in eastern Canada that could do the job?

Kevin

ehp can probably work it over and shipping to and from Ontario shouldn't be too bad.

ehp

Thanks Kevin, yes I can do it or any other saw, and shipping is easy , it is just Magic lives right beside Dave so I thought he could go there.

ehp

shipping from eastern Canada is cheap , I have alots of saws in NB, and some going to NS this spring . the 088 ported is very strong and is the strongest  ported  woodsaw out there, the 3120 is good but not as good as a ported 088, the 088 when ported will turn a higher rpm in the wood than what the 3120 ported can turn out of the wood because of the low rpm rev limiter in them now.

Dave,
Its nice to know I have some one close to me that could work on my saw.  I am not really looking at getting it done at this very second but more during the spring.  I cut a lot of wood during the summer months.  Is there an email I can reach you at as well?  I appreciate the hospitality, if I am ever up that way, I will give you a call and stop by.  I have heard great things about modifiying saws and I almost feel like I'm missing out.  So I figured it was time to check into it.  Thanks again Dave.

Hey Ed,
Are you going to Eagle River, Feb 19-20 I am going to go over to give Alex a hand. He asked me if I wanted an entry form and I told him with the cold and as slow as I am to a saw it would be April before I got started and headed back home, This getting older has its good points but running race saws and chopping are not one of them. Thanks again for the good thoughts.
                         Dave.

ehp

No Dave I am not , I want to go but I will be the only one here taking care of the old man's company, They are in Barbados and everyone else that helps here is going on the beinging of Feb. till April. I will be going to Bracebridge on the first weekend in May,
I think Cecil is going and a couple other guys from over here, I heard Gaston is going and if he goes I would think Donald would be going, Maybe Remi and Charles also

I can speak first hand about the ported 088. I have one done by EHP. This EHP 088 is a monster. I run alot of long bars for removals and it handles them with authority. Thge more I run this saw, the stronger it gets.
Will try to get some video of the saw.

My 088 was sent to EHP on Friday along with a 346. I think this is the start of many saws going his way
