What is the longest lived saw you ever owned? You know the one that just would not die. Also what is the worst saw you ever owned? the one you just could not get to run right from the beginning.

Sthil and sthil got it . ;D Pooland could pull the rope till it smoked and still might not start. :D :D

Stihl 028 is the longest and best one  and a Craftsman 14" was the absolute worst .

Best one for me so far Stihl 036, won't die cuz I won't let it. Worst was my first saw, a heavy, unbalanced, gas boiling Pioneer P45.
Crazy enough to try it! (once)

Deerlope

041 AV stihl, had it about 20 years, must have replace every screw at least once.
MS 230, MS 260, MS 361 Husky 576XP, Husky 390

Best?  Stihl 020 AV  Many carb rebuilds, still my favorite limbing and small job saw.

Worst?  McCulloch, 1980's vintage  Never would restart hot.

028Stihl,still use it today, bought used in "84" ...worst saw was 1100 Pioneer (pronounced..Pie-in-ear) my very first saw in "72" bought used,LOUD & RUFF ,it vibrated every fastener lose, boiled gas, and fussy to start anytime. Saws have come a long ways since then ;D :D :)
just another beaver with a chainsaw &  it's never so bad that it couldn't get worse.

Best:  Stihl 036!  Almost ten years now and still running strong, cutting good!!  Only had to replace the spark plug once and clean the air filter a couple of times and it has been used a lot.  Wife just bought me a new MS 460 but haven't tried it yet.

Worst:  Close call between a Remington, bought so long ago I don't remember when or where, and a McCulloch.  The Remington was bought some time in the late 60's or early 70's.  Sawed very little with it.  The McCulloch was bought in mid to late 70,s and now both are just collecting dust.  (not sawdust)  :D

a good stock 028. also an super xl blue saw.. that would not die..

Longest lived was my John Deere 45ev, finially traded it in cause I was tired of it. It was just  way to slow.
Absolute worst saw (I use that word loosely), my grandfather's old Mcollugh mini mac. Vibrated so DanG bad your hands went numb just lookin at it.  ;D

I`ve had alot of great saws, still do. Pretty much Pro Huskies and Stihls with the odd Dolmar 7900 thrown in.

The biggest POS that I`ve had was a Stihl 019T. An overweight, gutless wonder that never would continue to run right from day to day.

An old Homelite Super XL. I got it used and still have it. Used it to clear cut in Colorado...use it here in NYS...it came from NYS when I moved out to Colorado in 1989..I can't even remember how long I had it before then. Its old. Its still in use. I cut a lot even now.

Devo and Leweee's comments about gas boiling Pioneer saws reminded me of a saw I had forgotten that I once owned.

It was a small Pioneer that I bought used. Don't remember the model.  It did that gas boiling trick, too.  I didn't use it very long.  The sight of the gas bubbling away when I removed the cap was a little unnerving. Easily the worst saw I ever owned.

The best? Time will tell.  Maybe the Stihl 066 that I bought a couple of years ago.

Many moons ago I purchased a husky 272. It has easily overcome my "ignorant" ways and is still a force to be reckoned with in the woods. Easily my best saw.

My worst saw was some POS homelight that was given to me. They say you are warmed twice if you heat your house by wood. If you cut wood with the homelite I had, you would be warmed three times. Getting it started was one heck of a workout.

The longest lived,go to two of the most bad mouthed saws on the forums.McCulloch pro mac 610 and 2.1 cu in Poulan, sold under the Dayton name, and painted orange.I have had both, for over 30 yrs,and they both cut like they were new, although a bit scratched up.My all time least favorite, although I didn't own it,but served a sentence on the helper handle,is a Mall model 7 .I have a little McCulloch 120,however,that is fast becoming my least favorite . ::)

ellmoe

Best for the money, Stihl 028. Used it when I logged the Sahara forest! :D Worst, a "throw-away Poulan. It was, and I did!

Thirty plus years in the sawmill/millwork business. A sore back and arthritic fingers to prove it!

This is a know brainer. Best is my Stihl 028.Best saw that I own. Worst was a McCullock Eager Beaver.I gave this saw a 357 magmun send off.Vapor locked all the time. Vibration could rattle your fillings.
Stihl The One
Stihl Going Strong
Stihl Looking For The Fountain of Middle Age

Best is really a tie between my Super XL and the 066.  Worst, my Sears labelled Poulan.  In all fairness it was used when I bought it (so were all of my saws), but by the looks of it had by far the least amount of use.  I think I know why, based on my experience.  When it runs, it does a pretty decent job.  Just doesn't like to start...hot or cold.

So many trees, so little money, even less time.

Stihl 066, Husky 262, Husky 350 (warmed over), Homelite Super XL, Homelite 150A

The worst would be a toss up between my dads old 60's McCulloch and the O D green Remington I used in RVN. The McCulloch never wore out because it was impossible to start.  :(The Remington started just fine but would fall apart . Went through three in one day. Maybe it was the green paint. ;D

Things turn out best for people who make the best of how things turn out.

The saw that won't die isn't the best or worst, it just won't die... or start half the time for that matter...McCullough PM1010 without anti vibration.
Dad gave it to me because of the vibration and bought a mac 610 with anti vibration.  The 610 gets it for the worst.  Whatever I buy next will be far better than any saw I have now.
