I havent thought about that bridge in a while. I have seen trucks hit it when working in that area. There is another one right up the road that got the same abuse. It got a large beam welded just ahead of it last time I was there. Kinda a shame, for both drivers and bridges!! :D

My mistake!! That is the one with the beam.

Well, when the little voice tells you that 'you are pushing it!' listen.  I was bush hogging near a drain area for a spring and had done this before but had listened to voice I recon.   I got too far back near the drainage area.

Tractor started to sit down on the rears as I was backing toward the drain area. I lifted the bush hog and hit the hydro to move forward.  That's when I realized I had not but the tractor in 4-wheel drive.  By the time I realized that and put it in 4 WD it was too late and would not pull out.  Water was up on the wheels mud was up near the loader/backhoe subframe.  Tried to use the grapple to help but no joy.  Sorry did not get a picture before getting it out.

I walked back to the barn and got the shovel, chains and RTV.  I figured I'd try to dig it out with shovel, if that did not work, I'd remove the bush hog weigh from the back and try removing only the tractor.

Fortunately, after digging mud out from front of all 4 tires and the front of the bush hog I pulled forward 3 or 4 inches.  I repeated the process 2 more times and it gripped enough to come out.

I was relieved to not having to remove the bush hog and pull it out with chain or worse yet not being able to get it out.  We had traveled to the Va property in our hybrid car to save fuel.  The 4 WD truck was in Charlotte NC about 3 hours away.   The area would have been tight to get the truck in anyway as there is a creek just to the front of the tractor.  The RTV would have been too light and would have strained a giblet.

All is well that ends well.

Whenever I screw up and get myself in a jam like that, first thing that happens is I overheat and have to take a shirt off or something 🤬.
Ask me about hybrid larch!

I have become very proficient at getting my Kubota tractor unstuck when buried in the mud. I have learned driving through the woods that a fresh cut 30" log on the forks will tend to make the front wheels sink in. ;D

In that video you can see they built a frame in front of that bridge that keeps getting hit to prevent RR bridge damage. If they didn't, there would be train wrecks too. :o

Lynn,
Good link!  I'll keep that one in mind.

So, fishing in Canada this week as some may know.  We bought our licenses on the first day and we each thought we had put them in safe places for the week so they would be handy if a game warden stopped us.  I put ours in the glove box of our boat.  My friend James put his in the pocket of his tackle box.  Fast forward to this morning when get to the border and we were getting passports out.  James finds my license in the console of my truck.  I thought, that's not possible because I put them I'm the boat.  We crossed back into the US without issue, but then were stopped by game agents so they could check our licenses.  Of course I had mine right away since they were in the truck instead of the boat.  James' and his son were tucked in the tackle box inside covered boat, so we had to uncover the boat.  When he finally gets the "licenses" out he discovers what he had put in there was the receipt from the shop that had repaired our boat 2 weeks ago.  Immediately I thought I wonder what's in the boat glove box.  You guessed it, his license was in my boat glove box all week.  We got it all straightened out and the game agent was none the wiser.  An hour or so later I remembered I had taken pictures of "my" license so I would have them on the phone.  Nope.  I had pictures of his and his sons licenses.  We laugh about it every time we talk about it.

Well, the only thing I can figure is a fat angel sat on the front right corner of the Lull yesterday.
I was backing up in a yard, some slope but not bad, running my mouth and pointing to the next dunnage locations while drifting backwards. I wasn't tilting the frame to level it as it wasn't much slope and I didn't have a load on yet. Uhh, focusing forward while moving backwards... ::)

The downslope rear tire went into a shallow dip and that was all it took. The front right wheel raired up 3 or 4' in the air and the machine started to roll. Frame tilt comes from the front on these old things so hitting that just made it worse. Turning wheels confirmed that wouldn't help. I shot the boom and started sliding the carriage forward. Problem was I had hopped on the Lull cause the loader was down. Now I'm boomed over it, but the crease in the seat is sure relaxing as the cg is improving. At that moment the thinking is "I'll buy you a new loader"  :D. The sled crosses the center of gravity and I slam, not quite to the ground, but once I get the boom off the loader it settles down. Mostly paint but I'm heading over to work on the loader in a few. Any landing you walk away from...

Would have made a great video...  ;)

Glad just paint and hope no more.  still a good story.

I'm going to buy a tractor from my FIL, so I went and rented a truck and trailer from Uhaul. Trailer was 6x12, plenty big. Except for the ramp and opening to the back of the trailer is probably 4.5 feet, which is about 1 foot narrower than the tractor. Like 97 bucks down the drain and now I'm off to drive the tractor home about 15 miles on the back roads. The wife will follow in her car so hopefully we stay out of trouble.

I am somewhat familiar with that trailer design. I think if you had enough momentum going up that ramp you could have gotten it on. ;D You just have to 'want it' enough. :D

 Mighty nice looking tractor!

Nice looking tractor and finish mower.  15 miles is a pretty good distance, did the tires start out as Ag tires? ;D

It did not seem dumb at the time but the results were not what I expected. I took the ATV and 5X8 trailer down to the widow lady's house 2 houses down and cut up a couple of big maple logs into firewood lengths for her that the tree service left. I decided the logs would be too hard to get out, not high quality lumber and I don't have much market for maple.

Anyway I brought back the second load and spotted the TV cable line about 30 yards away. Several weeks ago a poplar top fell on it and our stalwart cable provider just hung a piece of flagging tape on it to warn people it was hanging a little low. I saw a motor home come by earlier today and slow to a crawl but made it under. I figured since they were never going to fix it I'd cut the top out and naturally the cable would lift back up. I cut the top, being careful not to cut the cable, and when I did, the whole dang thing fell down on the road or about a foot high. I had to rush over and get my 8' stepladder and a short piece of rope and pulled it up and tied it off to a young basswood tree there. I probably have it 11-12 ft high at the middle of the road and the flagging is still showing there. Some motorhome may snag it with their A/C or a neighbor with a tractor on a low boy going to cut hay may snag it but I figure I have done my due diligence. If you don't hear from you for a while then you will know why I have no internet/cable services. ::)
