I've spent a lot of time on a golf cart. Me and my buddy have made it a ritual that if you are on the cart you hang on.

I've tossed people out and been tossed myself during full speed turns and slamming on the breaks, done 180s or 360s everywhere I can, attempted ramping over a pile of sand (got stuck, it didn't ramp over at all), and all kinds of juvenile junk in between. It's dumb fun

Welp, this past Thursday was the final night of my golf league. My parter didn't show so I had my own cart for a scramble. On the 8th to 9th hole there is a teardrop shaped turn around, that I've hit at full speed several times. This time was different. Tires were sticky or maybe the suspension was worse on the driver's side, I don't know, but I rolled the cart. It happened before I even realized (I have been on 2 or 3 wheels in a cart) and I'm on my side. My ankles don't seem broken but maybe they should be, they are both quite swollen, one has a couple inches of skin sliced off, and my back got all cracky (but nothing unusual, my back sucks). I'm sore now but I got lucky, it could have been real bad.

Did something dumb, indeed.

OK,OK...  no pic. it did not happen right.  well, I was making a charcuterie board for a doc, who is going on a fishing trip.  had to trim it down to engraver size 18 x 24.  using my batt operated "skill" saw using the table saw for a work surface.  I let the edge hang over the side and threw some weight on the board and one edge was against the fence.  it was an inch thick cottonwood slab.  struck a line with pencil and started sawing.  I was using my left hand as a guide on the base to stay on that line.  halfway though it spun and almost fell, so I grabbed it...  In the spot where the blade was still spinning as I was trying to hurry, so I had not let off the trigger switch thinking I could stabilize it and keep on sawing.  felt a burning sensation. :o :o :o

with handheld tools we usually damage our non-dominant hand, table saws and stationary tools get the dominate one.  It still turned out great so I thought, it must not have been that stupid...  The pic is about 5 days out.  It was not full thickness.  He is going to the North Platte River in Wyoming.  I printed a topographical map of the several states that is covers.

He was in the Airforce and taught wilderness survival.
he and a dozen of his buddy's camp and fish there every year.  If anything happens, my DNA is on that board.  I decided I do like cottonwood for engraving.

Doc, that's a neat engraving.
Boy, that finger could have been much worse. Working with small pieces especially if in a rush or tired can be most dangerous.

I should have let go of the trigger but did not want a notch there so kept the saw going.  it was a bigger piece but was so smooth it spun on the table saw top as the forces changed halfway through the cut.  Had I not been guiding the saw with my left hand on the base, I would have grabbed somewhere else.  happened in less than a second.  I got a few steri-strips at work and the doc will never know what happened unless he reads it here. :snowball: :)

I thought about a stitch or two but was not sure how I would tie the knot.  I pulled it together with tincture of benzoin (skin prep uber sticky) and steri-strips and brought it together.  some was only partial thickness, so that is what you see.

Man, doc, did you have the blade just barely lower than the thickness of the piece? Great lesson for us all. I try to keep blade height just, just above the wood on the table saw but the circular saw is sloppy enough that it's usually deep enough to chop a finger off...

The owner of the next camp down river from me is a retired Dr., he says that you can get good deals in the emergency department then tells me about the guy that took the end of 4 fingers off his left hand on a table saw and said "hey doc do you play guitar? I can give you a really good deal on a nice acoustic guitar!"

Here I thought he was going to offer him a deal on a table saw.

the band aids made it hard to type on a keyboard, so glad I am past that stage.  I was a really nice fine carbide blade.  I was more worried about not messing up the edge.  did you see how nice it was.  worth it.   :o :o :o   :snowball:   :)  well maybe not.

Ouch Doc!  I never wore my wedding ring while working on aircraft as I really, really liked it the way it is and heard too many ring finger missing stories over the years.

It was a clean blade Stan, and sterile wood.   :)  it blead pretty good, so prob. some of my DNA on the project.

My dad was a truck driver Brandy, and did not wear his working.  guys jump off a trailer holding something, and the ring catches on something... called a degloving injury.  some are getting tattoos or rubber rings instead.  Hello to your family.   8)

In the ED, most of the older guys just want it fixed so they can get home and finish their project.

Doc, we could of used used you at the end of July, my wife tripped going into a restaurant, almost broke her nose but did push ball on the humerus into the socket good enough to break it into several pieces. She s now pretty much stuck doing nothing as she can't use her right arm and has to be care to not move or jar it.
