So, both not mine. Major work being done by multiple contractors all over I-80 near my cabin.

Talking with the earthworks foreman about how the truckers could access my site to deliver some dirt, he just sighed and said, they're truckers and pulled out his phone.

He had a trucker dumping large rocks offsite. He showed me a couple pictures where the driver didn't put the box back down. He hit the interstate overpass so hard, he broke both back axles. Worst part was it was the driver's brother's truck.

Then yesterday, the power was out up the hill. Same contractors, a very low power line that crosses the interstate somehow got knocked down. Took about 10 hours to fix.

Many years ago, the fellow who taught me sawmilling would say that when a log came in with big branch nubs sticking out that the feller was an "idiot chopper".
I suspect that there are some "idiot truck drivers" as well.
After two such accidents, we'd think the DMV would have something to say about his driver's license.
And if not them then the owner of the truck(s) should.

Oh yes, got see (and work with) a fair share of them in my truck driving days. :uhoh:
Like anything, there are good ones and bad ones in any profession. Just the good ones do there job safely day in and day out unnoticed.

I drove mostly belly dumps and conveyor belt floor trailers. We'd specifically get put on the parts of a road project that had to dump material under power lines or a bridge, where having a dump box up in the air wouldn't work.
I did drive a little with end dumps, and never had one go over. But did learn that a box loaded heaping full with wet mud, or packed tight with jagged asphalt chunks, could be tricky to get emptied out.

Many years ago, I drove a small 6-wheel dump truck for a house construction company.
After one week of rain that June, I was hauling mud off the site to a house down the street. To a site where there was a area that had been filled in by previous loads.
I dumped one on the pile.
I went back and got another load.
As I was backing out to dump it, the lot owner asked me to back right up to the edge and dump it over the end.
I told him no way at all that I was going near that edge.
On the third load, as I was backing out the ground gave way and the right rear wheels dropped down. The entire dump bed shifted right, and it was different seeing the body, no even up move right in my rear-view mirrors.
We had to shovel the mud out of the body to get the truck out of the sink hole.
And the lot owner said: "what you said might happen, happened." I said no pith, it happened.
The dump frame and piston were bent, it cost the company $8000 to get it repaired by the truck spring company.
The big boss told me not to do anything wrong even if the supervisor told me to do it.

No, my cats didn't scratch me. This is one of the hazards of milling in shorts. I had a bundle of sharp bands sitting out of the way, and I brushed by them real quick. It did not hurt, which is a testament to the sharpness. Since Wood miser is no longer doing sharpening, accompany next-door to them has taken over doing that In Indianapolis called accurate cutting technologies. They did a good job. It took a while to get the red stuff to stop. This picture is a couple hours later after a shower.

Several years ago when i was living in Oregon there was a group of Madrona that blew down

was going to use the Jonsered 81 to cut it up
would not start
switched to the Husqvarna 45
it started
then proceeded to climb onto the blowdowns and cut the logs loose from the root ball
root ball broke, I fell, chainsaw in the air, i land pinned in the branches, saw comes down BEHIND me still running

God was watching out for this idiot
Jonsered did not have a chain brake
Husqvarna did
during the episode my hand hit the brake
only damage was two diagonal cuts on my left pointer finger just deep enough to show the white tendons
I keep the glove to show others
and as a reminder of what NOT to do

Just like a knife, it's better to be cut by a Sharp band than a dull one.  Cleaner cut. Accurate cutting technologies also applied to preservative oil to the bands, something wood miser never did. I like it.

I was plasma cutting yesterday evening.  I walked to the house and back and thought I smelt paper burning.  I looked down at my steel toed tennis shoes and pants.  Nothing there.

I started cutting again and realized the sparks caught the paper towels in the trash can I just moved right behind me to plug in the plasma machine.

By the time I reached in to grab and step on the items of offense, I saw flames.  Took the whole trash can out and turned on the water hose.
Now, I use plastic buckets with those empty plastic feed sacks as trash cans.  So the whole thing would have burned up.  That wet assembly stayed outside the barn last night!

DDW_OR that is terrifying! I've gotten into the habit, pretty well, of chain braking after every cut, and so far I don't climb around much on stuff but that is a very scary lesson!

Lime has flipped many a truck in our area.  One side will stick and the other side slides free.  Then the body twists enough to get the weight over the side and boom, lime is dumped a different way along with the truck.

Magicman

I turned my tractor over in a similar situation.  I was on a side hill and unknown to me, the bucket held it's load on one side.  I got the bucket too high, and the rest of the story is history.

Seems like there is something missing there?
IMG_4174.JPG
Oh yeah. There used to be a jack/outrigger there!

I tore it off on the dirt road coming from my customer's pasture last night in the dark after we finished sawing. I called him this morning and he found it this afternoon when he went to work on a water tank and it is at his house. Hopefully it will only require replacing 4 - 5" carriage bolts and the nuts and washers.
