Looks like I'm moving from Illinois to Missouri in the near future.  Does anyone know if there are restrictions on moving air dried live edge slabs into that state?  I'm moving to southwest missouri but do not know specific town or county at this time.  Wife and I will rent until we decide where exactly we want to live and what kind of place to buy.

I know we are under a quarantine in Nebraska as far as wood movement due to EAB, mostly  affects  firewood. You might call state forestry  extension office in Missouri  they would give you the answer.

Illinois has a quarantine against hardwood firewood leaving the state unless it's been heat treated to 160 deg.  Not sure if your slabs would be subject.

Might depend on how good of a slab they are, some are nothing more than designer firewood...:D.  Like Nebraska said, call the area Forester for each county you are dealing with, both coming and going, they will have the straight answer.  Sometimes things like a lack of bark make all the difference in the world.

I've always been under the understanding that if it's sawn and no bark, it's lumber, not firewood.  Is there bark on your slabs?  Can you remove it?  I've moved a lot of "lumber" wood between IL and a neighboring state on my little flat trailer, boards and beams, and even live edge beams with most of the bark removed.  Barnwood too.

Congratulations on your escape from Illinois. Hopefully I'll follow suit one of these days.

IL is a nice place to visit, if only to visit my in-laws and get some Ski soda.

When describing something along those lines I will usually say, "As a HOLE it's nice, as a HOLE".  :D

Yea, I emphasize the fact I am speaking about a hole, maybe make a hand gesture or something to get the point across.

The more I think about the move the more it makes sense to sell most of my slab/cookie inventory here locally.  The governmental and physical effort seems crazy so I will grab out some dried primo walnut slabs and a few cookies that will fit in the suburban and start the liquidation sale tomorrow.

As far as Illinois goes I have lived here my entire life, went to UofI, and worked here, when I started looking for a job again a few months I focused on opportunities outside of the state.  There doesn't seem to be any fundamental solutions from our leaders only higher taxes kicking the can down the road.  No point in ranting anymore because it won't make a difference.  Time to vote with my feet.

Hopefully they figure it out some day.

Did the same thing a decade ago, had never planed to leave where I grew up, but now I find myself 1,000 miles from there.  I do miss the things I enjoyed, but on too many fronts the leadership is going down the wrong trail.

Oh heck no, I was one of those MAINEiacs.  Southside is what the area we are in now in known as.  Funny thing was my dad brought me to a Redsox game when I was probably 8 or so, they lost something like 87 to 1, this was back in the days of Jim Rice, and that was probably the last professional sports game I ever watched.

I'm a MO native.  Left, but came back.   ;)  My wife has family in IL.  Several have talked about leaving and at least one has.

What part of SW MO will you be in?

Normally I am not the guy in favor of over regulation, but what you just suggested is exactly why we have lost all of our Ash trees here in the US in what, 15 years? All because someone in China did exactly that with a box that landed in Chicago.

I agree with @Southside Green Ash is probably  our most common "good" hardwood especially out west (we used to have lots of  big elm trees too). It's reported 25 miles from me. It is really no different than people hauling their barrel/roping horses  and other livestock around and not getting a certificate of veterinary inspection spreading Vesicular Stomatitis around from some jackpot roping or barrel show. Ask the state of Colorado how that is. The rules are there for a reason and it doesn't cost anything to find out.  I don't mean to preach just kind of a sore spot writing health certificates for state fairs and shows  this fall has been an extra thorn for us and understandably so.
