Sawguy, that is what makes capitalism shine. From the spirit of competition to the single handed domination. Sometimes it's not fair for the buying public but it's just a matter of time before an entrepreneur goes into that particular market location and shows how competition is going to be, and you'll either have sellers compete successfully or the smaller and less bending person drove out of business. Then you are back to square one.

I believe that's why Stihl mandates their sellers be AT LEAST in different zip codes, preferably further apart than that. But I'm just guessing on that last part  say_what

Was just looking over the new cannon bar before putting it on the saw . Noticed that the gaps around the tip weren't even and on one side the rails don't line up right . There isn't any play in it.

Not sure what to make of this so I figured I would come ask the experts.   Is it a big deal or good to go ?

Quote from: lxskllr on February 16, 2021, 06:54:51 PMAfter waiting since early December for 2 18" chains for my little MS 251 because the shop kept " forgetting " to order my chains each time they placed an order , today I went to pick them up and was told it would be $100 for the two chains. I was expecting somewhere in the $75-$80 dollar range for the 2. I asked why they were so much only to be told they charged me $20 for shipping.

Greenhighlander if you ever get to this end of NS I'll tell you were to go.....to get a much better deal on saw chain that is.

Sounds like you did very well for yourself!  This seems like a good time to "buy once, cry once" rather than trying to pinch pennies (there's a place for both strategies sometimes).  The price difference between the Cannon and the others looks like a lot at first, but honestly, but you can make that up by selling 1-2 slabs, and all the satisfaction you will get using this bar over it's lifetime is certainly worth a little extra investment up front.

The best thing about that Cannon bar, and I got this info direct from one of them in an e-mail, an Oregon tip will fit, when the time comes. I know that for a fact because I recently changed the tip on one. Believe it or not, the most difficult part was getting the old rivet out. The new one went in and was easy to "swell", so all is good. smiley_thumbsup

There isn't really a market for slabs here . I am just milling beams and lumber for my own construction needs.  First up is a 12 cord woodshed .  Then I have a few bridges by my pond that are in desperate need of new boards along with a shed and a chicken coop that both need some mending .
I am hoping that by the end of all of that and the end of the " millable " logs by my house I will have the hang of it and be ready to mill some much larger high value logs on my other much more remote property , to build the infrastructure I need to move there.   I still need to fine tune a couple of the adjustments on the mill to get the lumber perfect .

Also good to know about the tip when the time comes , so thank you for that info .

Not always I have a couple Cannon bars one of which an Oregon tip doesn't fit right. They have some that have their name on them or use to for a few dollars more.
