We have felled about 7 Cupressus lusitanica on our property. I have a band saw mill. Am I best leaving the logs to dry a little or mill them straight away?

Should I seal the ends of the logs to prevent splitting?

Others who are better qualified than I should be along to adise you. Generally, it is best to saw them as soon as reasonally possible and stack it level, boards with some space between and stickers  between tiers. You likely knew that.

We saw a lot of cupresses here in NZ, it's generally pretty easy to saw and forgiving to dry. Best to saw the logs ASAP, then dry the sawn boards. They are easier to saw green, and it will dry in months, not years.

Being a softwood I've never bothered with end coating and get minimal end checking.
