I've tried cutting .055" broken bands out of logs with tin snips which notches the cutter and ruins them, or a grinding wheel which throws sparks everywhere in the sawdust, and even a pallet strapping cutter which pretty much separated the jaws so I guess it was too weak for the job.  Bolt cutters also didn't work.

What does everybody else use to cut problem bands that are wedged in the mill or log or both?

Take steps to save steps.

If it won't roll, its not a log; it's still a tree.  Sawmills cut logs, not trees.

Kiln drying wood: When the cookies are burned, they're burned, and you can't fix them.

Sawing is fun for the first couple million boards.

Be smarter than the sawdust

Diamond blade on an angle grinder.  Get a silver water extinguisher to keep by the mill and you can wet down if necessary without any cost.

One of my favorite operations.

.045 wheel on cordless angle grinder (Hilti).  Cut both sides of blade at log and move the head out.

Customer usually surprised that the blade got ruined.

Dont forget to pull out the piece of blade in the log.  :o :o

I'm always outside with less than a day's buildup of anything under the sawmill. I do carry a fire extinguisher.
