I read a interesting article about him. He is in Grand Marais Minnesota. He's got a couple Scorpion Kings, Buffalo and Elephant forwarders. He said he first had a skidder and tried all the other equipment out there years ago. His neck and back are all jacked up with pins and screws in his neck. He said if it wasn't for the Scorpion King he wouldn't be able to work. That's the machine he operates

I might be working off of old info, but they were up in Grand Marais, MN. He wasn't liking the markets or the cold anymore so they packed up their 2 CTL teams and headed to Georgia and got in on several of the mills down there that wanted pre-bucked wood after being bought out by a Canadian company. They were still down there a year ago, I haven't heard anything since.

Ohh  I am in love. This machine is so cool. I'm really interested in them. Which is how I ended up getting and rebuilding my Arbro1000. If only we had the forests here to sustain these machines, Id be all over them.  The factory build is very similar to most any high volume production facility now, but when they start putting the bunks on and the head to the machine they start to look sweet.   
I would love to see the HMI screens but they never show them. I'v only ever been able to get a quick glimpse of one.  I'm guessing they don't want to show it off to much for fear of replication, makes sense, wink!
I must admit, I did use my kids Farm Simulator Game to buy one of these bad boys and play with it a bit......

You know me so well.  Pretty cool, glad to see that it's Ponsse and even more so that it's been under development for 3 years.  So now they have a working proof of concept and it's basically like all the electric locomotives, a diesel engine in the back providing power to the electric powertrain.  I wonder how much of the hydraulic system they removed?  If one gets rid of the hydraulic boggies & brake system and have electric motors providing that capability then could eliminate one half of the hydraulic system, just have hydraulics for the crane and center stabilization.

Thanks Riwaka.  LTO is an expensive chemistry.  Le Tourneau was a pioneer but a bit too far ahead of all the component makers.  Batteries needed 50 years to catch up to his vision and we still have 10 more before they finish scaling.

wow, that's wide and big. is that the biggest Ponsse? @barbender , how much capacity on the elefant or scorpion?

Yes the Mammoth is the biggest Ponsse forwarder. These machines are getting huge!

My last machine when I was operating full time was a Ponsse BuffaloKing, which has an 18 or 19 metric tonne capacity (can't remember). The Elephant has the same load carrying capacity, but heavier drive components. The ElephantKing adds a few more tonne capacity, then the Mammoth brings it up to 25 tonnes. That's about 55,000 pounds😬 

Depending on what trucks can legally haul in your area, that can be more than a truckload every turn. Our trucks can haul around #90K in the summer with a three axle trailer, and trucks equipped with their own center mount loader are running #35k plus weight, so that puts them right at a load.

The high capacity forwarders really shine on long skids. If you are working close to the landing, smaller machines can easily match their production in my experience.

Around here, you rarely skid or forward more than 400 yards to a road. There is always a road into the block. They have to do silviculture so no one is walking more than that with trees or saws.
