There is a wonderful bunch of fellows and girls on this forum, a lot of knowledge  and i dont mean to disparage anyone.
But I see opinions asked for on various topics, mills, machinery, vehicles, tractors, skidders woodworking machinery etc etc etc.
Remember those of you asking advice, it is only the opinion of the poster which may or may not be in line with the answer you are asking for.
I am a GM and Woodmizer man, altho the mill went down the road last summer.
I have my opinions and express them fairly often.
they are my preferences and mine only.

I'm on a couple Facebook maple sugaring groups. Opinions there have to really be taken with a grain of salt. Members reply to posts bashing one company and championing another, a little research finds out they are an exclusive dealer for X company 🙄 many new guys starting out don't realize this. Nothing for moderators to do, what can they do?
The forestry forum is downright peachy in comparison. My opinion lol

I know that I can be very opinionated . Having struggled for years with sawmills and edgers I want to talk about it but I would hate to give someone [who may also be struggling] the wrong advice.

I've been known to say, "It's just my opinion, but I'm right  :D"

A lot of people post "questions" not really seeking the "right" answer but instead looking for confirmation of some nutball idea. On a place as vast as the internet they will certainly find that confirmation if they cast their net wide enough. I've seen plenty of them roll through here and they usually don't last too long. One thing I see here is more responses that are accompanied by references to a qualified resource or some serious experience backing it up. It tends to dampen some of the dreamers but sometimes a reality check isn't a bad thing. On many things there is plenty of room for differing valid opinions,on others not so much. In the end the truth just kind of stands there, it doesn't care who said it or if it is believed, it just is.

When I was in the USMC I'd sometimes sit on various promotion and award boards and such. We would typically ask at least one opinion question of the candidate. Some were of very controversial topics. We really were not overly concerned about what the individual thought (unless he was so extreme one way or another that he sounded like a real nutcase - which I never saw) but how well the individual could quickly form and present an answer based on the sometimes limited facts available to him/her. We might ask why they held that opinion and might find it was a personal experience, an article he had read, a TV show he had watched or conversations he had with people he respected. There generally was not a right or wrong answer but we did expect an individual to be able to form, express and support an opinion. We would also expect him to be willing to change that opinion if new and opposing information became available.

Now what do you think about grits and boiled peanuts? :D

Not being southern, have not figured out the point of boiled peanuts.
Most everything I enjoy doing turns out to be work

Tom King

I live in Peanut country, and I can't understand boiled peanuts either.  There are many other ways that I enjoy them, but that's not one of them.  I always thought they were for people without teeth.

I work in a hardware store.
Right with people having an idea and there is no other way to do it.  :)
Right with trying to get some customers out of the store as quick as I can.  :)
But there are 1000 good customers and 10 not so good ones.  ;D
And on other certain things, as long as someone don't tell me how good they are, I will leave it alone.
I grew up hearing how good vegetables are good for me. I stopped eating that stuff at 17 and been more than 40 years and still not eating them. Seem like I am doing well. That's what the Doctors are telling me.

Not being southern, have not figured out the point of boiled peanuts.
The point of boiledpeanuts is to sell them to yankees on a roadtrip vacation along the backroads of appalachia.  The highest concentration of boiled peanut stands is along the poorest mountain roads where there is simply nowhere to go work, that bring high tourism from the outside world. So mountain roads to gatlinburg and pidgeon forge.  NC74 has the indian casino near murphy and then connects to the whitewater vacation trap of the ocoee.   But if you get off onto some poor mountain roads that dont have a tourist attraction you wont see boiled peanut stands.  And ESPECIALLY not where the rich are hiding out in the mountain lakes say Cashiers NC or seneca.  The poor locals live off richie compound maintenance which pays a lot better than boiling peanuts.
Its just a one time sale curiousity thing to outsiders. Ive not met anyone who actually eats them.  I speculate that after the war of northern agression (  ;D ) johnny reb said to cousin billy wayne, 'hey lets play a prank on them reconstruction revenuers' and sold em a fine southern delicacy called boiled peanuts... Laughing all the way home.  I think everyone knows peanuts are just fine out of the shell and nasty out of boiling water.
Just my guess  ;)

Since this is an opinion thread I want to express my opinion of the northern tourists, the ones Mike is talking about. I think they always buy a new outfit before they come south to visit and this is not the same attire they wear up north. You know - the straw panama hat, tacky plaid shorts, black knee high socks with sandals and an Izod polo shirt. I don't think they are allowed to wear that up in Michigan, Minnesota or Wisconsin. I have it from semi-reliable sources that it was the infestation of these offensively attired tourists around Panama City Fla that initially led to the outbreak of the war as Mike mentions. :D

EDIT: Semi-reliable source was Lewis Grizzard who I think was the first to record this observation.

Mike, dont you mean the war of southern miscalculation?
And I totally agree with your opinion of the boiled (spoiled) peanuts.
I do, gasp, like the grits tho as I have stated before.
WV we bought a house in FLA in 2014, spent 2-1/2 years there, came to our senses and moved back to the finger lakes region of NY, and bought a snowmobile with the house profits.
Not much for me to do there as you can go to only so many gun shows, flea markets , go fishing and go target practicing.
Not enough activities to fill the months of Jan, Feb, march for me.
Oh yea forgot to mention eating out.
IMO the only thing great about the south is the PEOPLE here on the forum and I'm sure many others .

Well, there is at least one other great thing about the south.
It's SOUTHeastern conference football.  SEC is the best in the nation.  Ask Notre Dame, they will tell you, and ROLL TIDE ROLL!

Mike, now that your boiling maple syrup you can add the boiled peanuts and now you have a new product to sell on them back roads ;D :D.

My opinion is that all y'all northern bred frozen squeamish types don't know what is good to eat and what is not.  Not really y'alls fault, y'all just don't know any better.  I am fixin' to just keep my boiled peanuts to myself.
