Do you know what you hit with the blade?
I find that dry wall screws are hard on blade teeth.

I looked into Kasco blades a few weeks ago, since theyre in St Louis.  They actually referred me to a place 90 minutes south of me which many be familiar with, Baker Products, which builds and sells sawmills and resaws and lots of other types of sawing equipment.  I ordered ten 7 deg blades.  They will make them and let me know when they are ready for pick up.  I figure it will be a nice road trip to go and see their place.  I have never used 7 deg blades, so I'm interested to see how these work for me.

Oh I know exactly what I hit.   :-\

When I turned three cants for sawing 2X4's the claw caught underneath the outside cant and was sticking up above the cut line.  In over 19 years of sawing, this is the first time that I have ever hit the turner claw with a blade.  I have hit it a couple of times with the Debarker, but never a blade.

You will notice that half of that claw was already cut off which was done by my sawmill's previous owner.  My mark is about 1/8" above his.  ;D  I have a photo somewhere in my Gallery of the previously cut off tooth.

I could not tell any appreciable difference between a Wood-Mizer 7° blade and a 10° blade.

There is a huge difference between a 7° or 10° blade and a Turbo 7° blade.

did not get a pic on the mill, but here is a bit of Cottonwood on a 16-foot-tall wall in the addition on by buddy Dallas's shop.  the room behind this wood wall house many of his deer mounts in a climate-controlled man cave and out of the basement living area in their house.  Dallas is enjoying learning to be a carpenter.

16-inch-wide boards will dry in place.  you may remember him from this pic.  He loves ERC.

Lynn,

That would not have happened on my mill.  ;)

(I already cut the left claw tip off a year ago. :D I don't remember what it did to the blade but it whacked that point right off.)

New Year's Day my son and I sawed cedar logs that were brought here and left by a customer.  He never told me what he wanted and I can't find him now.

On Sunday we made benches out of some live edge 8/4.  I made the mistake of posting a photo of one on Facebook.  Now I have to build more $$$ 8)

I finished my sawing job this afternoon with 1330 bf of lumber and a couple of hours of hourly rate.

This is the last of 3 loads of railing that finished the job.

I have a special project sawing 'Sinker Cypress' and slabs from various species next week that I will try to put behind me before I start a "1X12 job" toward the end of next week.

 @SawyerTed that doesn't sound like a mistake.

I found someone selling what he says are cypress that he pulls out of the mississippi down in southern missouri.  If its real, I'd be interested, but it just doesn't seem like there would be that much cypress drifting in the MIssissippi.  While there are cypress in southern MO, I find it hard to believe that many of them get into the river.

This Sinker Cypress came out of South Louisiana and is end cutoffs that I salvaged from a previous job that I sawed several years ago:  Sinker Cypress  The logs are shown bucked in Reply #19, the actual sawing begins in Reply #41, and the end cutoffs are shown in Reply #63.  I have these ends which range in length from 3' to 12'.

It is a specialty item that I will only saw for special customers @ $25 per board foot.

Short answer to OP's question is Doug Fir, Redwood, White Oak, Claro Walnut.

Doug Fir Timbers milled and baked last summer, now ready for S4S and timber framing. Redwood siding, decking, architectural posts and slabs milled in the fall and now air drying, with first load in the solar kilns. White Oak was slabbed in November and crotch figure looks awesome. Claro Walnut landed in my lap unexpectedly over the holidays and still scratching my head on best game plan there.  Stoked for 2022, and no sign of snowfall here in Santa Cruz County.  Highs next week 60*F.

I heard John quoting Yellowhammer again this morning when we started this Pecan smiley_devil job.

A repeat customer texted me a picture and asked about us sawing for him.  I should have taken time to analyze the picture a bit but I sneaked a peak at a traffic light or stop sign and told him to bring it.  I wrecked a chain on my little 545 cutting off rotten, dirt filled limbs.

This "log" challenged us most of the morning.  sawing 26" + wide pecan/hickory will let one know if the drive belt is not tight enough or if the new blade is dull after just a few cuts.

Our second blade of the day was a resharpened 4°.  After installing it, it fell off the wheels.  We reinstalled it and tried again.  It fell of once more and went into the scrap pile.  Another resharpened 4° was the ticket.  I've never sawn wide pecan slabs that were so flat.  I should have taken a picture of the slabs.  There was very little sapwood in them, and the color of the heartwood was incredible.  In hindsight, we should have sawed these "logs" on shares instead of our hourly rate.  I stopped the clock any time we had to make an adjustment.
I probably should have posted this in "I did something dumb today".

Good job on the Water Oak.  It has a special look of it's own with the 'bacteria' stains.  8)

The bacterial infection/stain in the low grade bottomland red oaks like laurel oak and water in the Deep South can be quite beautiful.
