Did I miss something, I though Lynn said awhile back that he was quitting, or at least going on the road?  Did he spend 3 days in retirement and couldn't take it?
Anything someone can design, I can sure figure out how to fix!
If I say it\\\\\\\'s going to take so long, multiply that by at least 3!

Magicman

Not you but I think my customers missed my future sawing intentions.  ::)

I do not plan to travel over 50 miles anymore and hopefully not saw more than 2-3 days per week.

His wife whined about losing the peace and quiet she enjoyed when he was sawing.
That's what I think and I'm sticking to it.

Back into more black gold

Speaking of black gold, we have a new client.  He just got a WM 1000, that's quite a mill and he uses it to make table tops, sells on etsy.

Some of the best walnut in the country. That's my opinion of my walnut off my farm 😂

Nebraska

Mine have a ways to go, 8 inches dbh. I planted a crop I won't harvest. Hoping the neighbors and dicamba wont kill them first.

I cut walnut and cherry for my best customer today.  I didn't measure but he estimated between 800 and 900 board feet.

Behind me is the local builder's supply where my customer works (his family owns it).  The bottom photo is of the small commercial hardwood mill that shares the property.  Our slab pile from two days of sawing is in the foreground.

We had a few 1x6x16' cypress to saw for a repeat customer.  We pulled three logs out of the pond before we found one that was straight enough not to have a lot of waste over 16'.  The first two will yield a lot more lumber when bucked to 8'.  The other log we sawed was one a tree service dropped off a couple of months ago.  It was a knotty, wonky excuse of a log but we were able to get some decent boards out of it (butter from a duck).

As we were finishing up on the 1x6's another family of repeat customers showed up to pick up a hand-hewn sinker cypress beam that they are going to use as a mantle in their new house.  We put it on the mill and sawed a flat on one face for them.  I hated to see this one go, but they wanted it more than we did $$$.

We pulled some pine 1x6 and 1x8's that we had drying for another customer.  He will pick them up later in the week.

After running up to Publix to get a sandwich for lunch, we picked through and sorted some cedar 1x's that will go to a retail store tomorrow.  Following that, we palletized some cedar slabs and put an ad on CL.  Hopefully we can move them quickly.

Quote from: WDH on February 06, 2022, 07:26:29 PMThe mantle beam is awesome!

A fellow that we saw for occasionally, had it on his trailer one day when he brought a small sinker cypress log by for me to saw for him.  He comes across some good logs sometimes, but he seldom has money, so we saw on shares for him frequently.  I kept two slabs out of the sinker as payment for sawing that log.

After thinking about the beam for a day, I called him and told him I would be willing to buy it from him.  We have a mantle rack in my shop to display mantles on.  I was content to let this one stay there for perpetuity, but this young couple wanted it and did not flinch when I gave them the price.  I put that beam up on the mantle by myself after purchasing it.  It was a job for the three of us to get it down today (John and I were both sick last week and weakness has been a side effect).

I cut some cookies on this beast and should have cut them all the way down and they looked incredible. But all the bad things I heard above cookies I didn't. Big mistake.  Put it on the side expecting treasures and it was a disaster! Blew through a couple blades and it was split a little deeper in all the way through and dirt and full of ants. I doubt I will be jacking around with a stump anytime soon
