Danny,

You need to go back to sleeping in the sun and scratching an occasional flea and stay out of this. ;)

Brandi,

I spent too much time learning (Still am) to saw lumber to waste my valuable time counting boards that any 3rd grader could do so I choose to direct my energies to sawing better lumber in a safer fashion. Besides, the kids enjoy it and being productive members of the team makes them feel important and useful. They are. I think we agree the standard size stacks of lumber is the quickest and most accurate way to count lumber where you can do so.

I never heard of an Aggie till I joined the USMC and served with several. My experiences are all first hand and my opinions are based on them. No offense intended but I do not hold the organization in the same high regard some others do. Some traditions and attitudes there still need to die out as they have elsewhere.

Howard,
Again, I am sorry to have offended you with my comments.  It was never intended to offend anyone.  Please accept my sincere apology.  I was trying to inject humor, but I see now I need to keep that type of humor in Texas.

Brandi,

For public disclosure you are on my list of favorite FF members and it would take a lot to change that. Be safe, keep the posts coming.

I had an early blood draw for lab work this morning so we got a sorta late start.

This lumber is being dead stacked into lifts that the customer's tractor can pick up.  It will be trailered to and stickered at the building location.  No trouble counting this.  All of the 10' is sawn and we have moved to the 14's now.  Only 2436 bf sawn today for a two day total of 5216 bf.

Just another run of the mill burl walnut log.

I saved even the scraps.

I think I could have got a lot more value out of the log by cutting it in half to attack each burl but my customer wanted full length slabs.

I'll have nightmares about how many knife scales, pistol grips, and box tops I could have got out of the log.

I sawed 12 foot 2x6s this morning and stickers this evening.  Stickers are so boring, I didn't even bring the camera out.  If Y'all want proof of the 2x6s................here is a file photo. :D

<<Disclaimer>> These 2x6s were either sawed today or in the past................ignore all the green in the background. ::)

I have finished the 10' stuff and moved on to the 12's & 14's.

Continuing to "whack & stack".  I added another couple of Mbf today making the total over 7Mbf for three days sawing.

To add a bit of excitement and wake everyone up, I did have a blade to break today.  I have been using 3 blades per day so today was 3½.  ;D

Yup! Just like an AK-47, it makes a very distinctive sound when fired at you. ;D I never broke a blade until I started that part time LT50 gig and now whenever I do break one, if I cut the engine soon enough, I can often hear the boss up on the hill 1/4 mile away laughing and/or making sarcastic comments. (I think that's fine, he is paying for the blades. :D)

I am friends with an Amish tree service guy.  he wanted to make a farm table for his family and brought some logs and his son.  I let the son hold the lever forward for moving the mill, as I controlled the speed (including stop if I wanted).  sure enough, bang went a blade, and I instinctively said, "what did you do"?  He looked a little scared till he saw his dad and me laughing.

The trailer was great
They came and got it the other day to go to a couple of shows.
The belt feed dump is awesome to use.
We are adding some things I want on the next one. Or I will get that one back and build higher side boards.

I've got more walnut logs than I need right now, but it doesn't mean I don't want more.  Yesterday while driving across mid-Missouri I saw a stack of walnut logs that must have been 200' long and stacked at least 14' high.  I thought, it sure would be nice to have all of that.  No pictures because I was driving and it was snowing at the time.

Of course I didn't get the walnut, but the other day a friend called me to say he has a bunch of really nice white oak logs for me.

And I am surprised that WV Sawmiller didn't call you out because those sawhorses have no stringers or diagonals. Geez last year he gave me a heck of a time citing all kinds of disaster scenarios of how I could get hurt or small children could be flattened because I had no stringers. He shamed me into adding them against my better judgement. :D
Now we can clearly see they will take quite a load when those feet have a bite in the dirt.

Tom,

Waddah you want me to do? Send you the 26 cents you spent for the recycled bent nails and 2 scrap stringers you got out of the kindling box you used to reinforce those ricketdy death traps you had posted? :D Besides, weren't your's used on that slick bluestone granite in your area instead of securely dug into top soil like Brunos?
