You made me go to the book :P and take a look.  I have sawn 64,531bf in 3 months of sawing which certainly is not what you professionals saw but I guess 20Mbf+ per month ain't too bad.

I only have two of what I consider "large" jobs (over a week) on the schedule so hopefully I will be able to either slow down or preferably quit sawing when hot weather gets here   smiley_sweat_drop

Short chain with a chain binder would hold it too, I'd think.

Estimate the red oak timber about 170 bdft weighs 800 - 900 lbs.

Notch out the timber at the ends so it cannot slip sideways should help to fasten it down too.
I guesstimated in my head 180 bd ft to hit 936 pounds.
Chains tear up paint.  The center straps are crossed under a 4 inch square pipe.
Notching would take up sawing time.  Besides, I am too slow to be Tokyo drifting around turns.

Doc,
No worries.  Should I put linseed oil or tung on it, to get it to last longer?  I'm thinking just keep it dry and off the ground will do.
Once I get the sawmill shed pad finished I will remove it and the landplane and 3PH arms and reinstall the backhoe.  I am seeing that a fixed weight is a lots better feeling then the weight swinging on the 3PH arms.

OK.  I thought it looked great (no kidding).  some would have strapped a gangly old, crooked log on there and look like junk.  the finish would take it to the next level.  with all due respect, I am just treating you just like any other friend I have made on the forum (no kidding).  Best regards, Doc.

Went over to see a repeat customer 27 miles away and sawed about 1430 bf of mostly oak. One old ash slipped in by mistake and a few tulip poplar logs for his neighbors/customers. It was good to see him again and we had beautiful weather. His logs seemed to range from 12" dia with a split to 30" gnarly oak. His were mostly 5/4 X 6" fence boards or 2X8 floor joists. His customers got 1" boards mostly 10-12 inches wide.

5/4 X 6" oak fence boards and a few 2X6's

10" 4/4 ash boards we first thought were oak till I opened it up. I mush have been down a while as it does not appear to be EAB killed.

More longer fence boards, 2X8 floor joists and some 2X4 edged off wide flitches.S

Shorter floor joists.

I'll start with this, I spent some time over the last couple weeks realigning things on my mill.

of course the first log ruined my day, a band and a chain in my chainsaw

<br

>

After getting that took care of I am glad to say the mill is cutting better than I have had it. nice and smooth.

Then I needed a couple more long 6x6 beams for my deck project.

so I maxed the mill out on length

there was just a little tension when i made my last cut, 2 of them stayed straighter

My neighbor gave me a Pecan that had fallen down. this was something different for me.

I had more pitch/sawdust buildup on the blade than anything else I have sawn.

pretty boards

Getting ready to tackle this Fools Gold carrot 🥕 that needs to be trimmed to get through the 35" throat but I got it leveled up 😂. I'm thinking the shake in it is going to be just fine to come apart for turning it into Gold. Epoxy in between the places that come apart so instead of a 28" slab it can be a very unique 40" wide table.

It's not leveled in the picture

Fools gold from my leased land next door is what it is! From what I cut into so far between the shake and sap wood that's wider than the gold it's a horror story 😂. The epoxy plan with the shake was expected but not the sap or the way the shake ran 😂

I know the mill yards a mess   ;)
First off a over loaded log truck went threw one off my 5ft culverts.
Been Sawing lots of big white pine for barn and shed projects.
Clear and select 5/4 poplar to send to the kiln then sell.
Grade stakes for the golf course, 3 dirt contractors and the city of Lebanon.
For a quick repair on the culvert I'm going to make (2) 8"×4'x20' hemlock mats to bridge the opening till I come up with a permanent solution.
That's going to cost me some money.

There are 2  5ft culverts

Your mill yard looks productive and not messy at all. Glad to see you are cranking out the work and have orders!
The culvert collapse is a real bummer. Guess it needed to be deeper? Yeah, it won't be an easy fix, but it is fixable. Hopefully you can fix it better than it was.
Keep on hammerin' man, you've got it all going on!

I've seen yards a lot worse. ;)
Guessing that was a metal culvert? I replaced mine a couple years ago and went with heavy double wall plastic. It was an investment, but they will never rust. When I cover a culvert with a "swamp mat", I bevel the end corners 45° to ease the transition, and then grade gravel up to the ends.
