When you replace that culvert you should consider going back with double 42" pipes instead of a single 60" . That way you get 18" more cover over it.

The culverts are 2 old in ground fuel tanks 5 ft in diameter 12' long.
The water got high this spring and I think washed out some of the material around it.
My road was a haul road they built when they put interstate 89 in Grantham and Springfield.
The road went 10 miles to an area with big sand and gravel pits.
I don't know if they are original or not.

I know the mill yards a mess   ;)
First off a over loaded log truck went threw one off my 5ft culverts.
Been Sawing lots of big white pine for barn and shed projects.
Clear and select 5/4 poplar to send to the kiln then sell.
Grade stakes for the golf course, 3 dirt contractors and the city of Lebanon.
For a quick repair on the culvert I'm going to make (2) 8"×4'x20' hemlock mats to bridge the opening till I come up with a permanent solution.
That's going to cost me some money.

There are 2  5ft culverts

I got a call, a cut list and an advance payment in full for about 1700 bf of tulip poplar from a new customer. Mostly framing and 300 linear ft of 1X4 for nailers for metal roofing. I contacted my sometimes customer and sometimes log provider and took the mill over and sawed about 1800 bf to fill the order and a few extras. I arrived at 7:00 am, we finished at 6:00 pm and I disconnected the mill in my home lot at 7:00 pm. It got warm and my customer/supplier got dehydrated and we barely finished.

This is an arrangement we have used several times and works great for me and he seems happy with it. He cuts the trees off his 400 acre farm, drags them up with his big Kubota tractor and feeds them to the mill then he off-bears and rough stacks the lumber as it comes off the mill. I provide the cut list, sawmill, saw the logs and help him with the heavy slabs or boards and sometimes roll a log on the arms. He is my age and in decent health. At the end of the job I buy the lumber for the order at half the sale price and we basically split the fee.

When finished, the customer comes and picks up his lumber which the supplier loads with his tractor and FEL. I have even helped broker transportation when the customer needed it using other neighbors with trucks and trailers as part of their farm businesses. I did not take a picture of the finished work today but used 6.6 hours on the mill engine, $25.79 worth of gas, 53 miles RT, 3 bands to resharpen and 2 broken ones.

I fill small orders from trees off my property I can cut and pull down with my ATV or small JD tractor but for orders with a lot or with big logs required I call my associate.

I went and picked a few walnut logs from @Osage  that he got from his neighbor lady.  He helps around her place, and cleans up her woods and makes a little firewood.  this was a down tree.  i milled a little 4 foot log for him to provide some slabs for his son to make a table.

this is on the road by his place.  he threw in a cedar he had around.
it was great wood, and although I took a few pics, they are not on my phone.  we got four 2 inch slabs....  Or did we since I have no pic?...   :)

Any chance this is Kentucky coffee?

Look very closely at a very clean slice of the end grain, like cut with a razor knife.  The earlywood pores should be open if mulberry.  If osage orange, they will be occluded with tyloses.  If you have the ability to take a magnified or high resolution pic of that clean slice, we can solve the mystery.  Hopefully you can post such a pic.

Some of the black spots in the first pic are earlywood pores.  Those are open, and the black is the void of the lumen of the cell.  The second pic clearly shows some open pores.  Thus, it is mulberry.  There would be no open earlywood pores in osage orange.  They would be stuffed with tyloses. The medullary rays show up very nicely.

Excellent pics.  You get a Wood ID A+.  Most times posters asking for wood ID take the pics of the end grain from 75 feet away, and that end grain was sliced with a dull chainsaw chain :).

My favorite ID opportunities are when the poster takes a pic of the whole tree from 400 feet away.  "What tree is this?"  One that was photographed poorly from 400 feet away ::).

At the next Project I will do a session on the fundamentals of wood identification if there is enough interest.

Oh there is interest  :P  and I know the exact log that we/you can begin with.  :D

I even have a couple of specimens to add to the collection.

interest is high.  We work on bark and leaf ID but lack much on the structure of the wood.  I have thought about an event here.  we have a nature center with many specimens, and @Cardiodoc has land 1 mile from me and is trying to do TSI.  but life has to slow down a bunch before that.  What book would be a comprehensive source to start reading Danny?

@WDH you have done enough, but can you draw on and label what you see on one of the pics?

Been living in a school bus 9 years.
Sawyer taught me to run his circle mill and turned me loose.
2 elderly friends help me mill the lumber and frame it up.
Donations of windows metal insulation etc.. come flying in.
Asked my wife what kind of house you want.
She smiled and said I wanna live in a barn.🙃

Hit a couple nice ones this weekend.    A curly ambrosia maple and a cat paw cherry.   Both produced some lumber that will sell at a nice price.   Both would have been graded pallet at a commercial sawmill.    Makin' chicken out of chicken s@#$

Been sawing White Oak trailer boards for my log supplier.  Full size 2x8s.

For one reason or another, I had to cut a bowed board's thickness down.  I clamped it down and wire both ends to the sawmill frame.  Another use for safety wire!

He also requested 8x8 and 6x6 blocks.  I threw in 4x4 blocks.  He'll use it to block up and work on heavy equipment.
