Might be worth it to check the tire pressure anyway. Could be that a lower tire caused the nut to keep twisting left and fall off the rod end.  :D

Well something caused it to back off, adding air to a tire is easier than slowing down the rotation of the Earth.  :D

I picked up the cylinder last night all fixed.  They reattached the rod to the piston and replaced a couple seals.  I re-installed on the splitter topped up the fluid and everything is back to normal.

Thanks again for all the help. Much appreciated.  I hope this thread can help someone in the future that has limited knowledge like myself.
Glad you found the answer! I will say that your machine shop guys are really quick, you got your cylinder back in one day 8)

Half the problem on every splitter is all the nuts  loose behind the control lever's.  :D

Seriously, good thread.   This kind of stuffs gold when suddenly your splitter is the one with the problem.

That splitter design looks like "Dirty Hand " .Copied by many in China and sold in every color of the rainbow .Last fall I worked on one of them but it was orange .Funky controll valve .It just so happened Surplus Hydraulics had bought a job lot of them and sold them cheap like $50 a pop .
Not to mean mouth the machine it was not top quality .Way too light on the brackets etc and it was a 5 "cylinder .I did some reenforcing to it before I sent it out .
