I'm having trouble fixing an oil leak on a Husky 550XP. I replaced the line from the pump to the bar with no success.
When I asked my dealer he said there is no fix, just live with it.
Has anyone taken the saw apart to expose the oil tank? Is it a split casting with a gasket?
any ideas? Thanks, Bob

Mine has always leaked brand new. Poor design maybe?

How bad does it leak? Will it empty the tank? Does it just seep most of the time? Sometimes it can be built up pressure from temp changes.
It's annoying, I know, but some saws are like that. If it empties the tank, then yeah, there is an issue to be found. Maybe @Spike60 will stop by in a day or so, he will know.

Doesn't empty, just a little leeks. I couldn't measure how much because I set the saw back on the same mat throughout the year.  ffsmiley

Some saws just seem to do that. My 350 does, but it's 25 years old and I gave up trying to find the issue. My 372 clone leaks like a sieve but I gave up caring, I don't use it much and it was never a very good saw anyway. smiley_smug01

There is no common or typical issue that Ive ever encountered. I have 3 550's and 1 2253, and none of them leak. Don't know what to steer you to.

Thanks for the replies.
The tank will drain completely sitting in the upright user position.
My next idea is to test with the fill plug up, then test with it down so as to see if the fill plug rubber is the problem.
