hi all. just doing an autumn clean and maintain on my chainsaws and the one I am having problems finishing is my oldest, my husq 455 rancher. I cannot get to 9000 revs (the recommended) without bogging. it's either 12-13000 or bogs. I use regular fuel with preservative rather than Aspen etc. I'm supposing I need to clean the carb??
Thanks

Hi! Welcome to the forum. The 9000 rpms are when the saw is under load, in other words while cutting in the wood. The maximum no load rpm is at about 13,500 rpms. You should tune it so that when you hold it to wide open throttle without the saw in the wood it's at about 13,000 rpms. Then if you want you can check it in the wood and see if it's around that 9000 rpm mark. Hope I explained that well.

If the saw bogs when under load before the revs drop to 9000 RPM, there is a chance you are running too lean.

If you adjust the mixture to obtain the 12000 RPM is the bog no longer present?  I'd be happy with no bog and a 12000 to 13000 RPM no load WOT.

sorry. I wasn't aware the 9000 value was for when cutting and the 12000 for when tuning. live and learn, thanks
