Both these saws had their origins with Bob. The 285 has been... developed. Different cases, cylinder/piston and fresh rubber parts for bar oil & fuel. Basically "whipped" it into a useful ( but heavy ) working vintage hobby saw. The Jonsred also came from Bob years back. I did just enough back then to get it running and really don't remember what all it took. I see in the archives there was a video on the subject. SO for what ever reason filling my cranial cavity with absolutely useless numbers is a fun pass time. SO in that theme I've researched the internet for time line data and STILL don't know for sure when these models were sold. SO these "dates" are a blend of what I could find from a variety of places from the acres site to some other historical places from facebook to over at another "chainsawcollectors" site where the focus is historical.

But for me a recurring theme on the channel is evaluation with a goal to quantify "life with a saw" vs. cookie cuts & specs to evaluate these saws. I use them , enjoy the challenge at times. But they will get run time doing what I do & that is where the opinions will be formed over time. NEVER thought I would like the king of kluge Homelite 540, but after a period of frustrating development & debug,  I was wrong. Love that thing. If I went with first impressions & cookies with out the run time I never would have found out it is a really nice saw to live with.....but need to move on.
A Follow Up Note: Husqvarna Bob sent this from his vast collection of manuals & info. :

The quality and accuracy of information found online is getting worse, not better. Too many voices, and too many egos to be massaged by followers and subscribers to online personalities who are media stars in their own limited world, which generally grows ever more isolated from the real one.  (How's that for a run on sentence?)

A great deal of this information gets regurgitated until it becomes accepted dogma. So much of it is of the "some guy said" , "I read it online" nature. The obvious question should be "so, who wrote it?. But that is seldom asked. So, we are unfortunately left with a deteriorating pool of knowledge where the additional errors far outpace the corrections.

Fun little exercise is for anyone who owns a business, or is truly an expert at what they do, is to go online and see just how clueless most of the advice being given actually is.  Enthusiasm is a poor substitute for experience.

As to the question, the oldest Jonsered price list I have is from Sept 1st, 1980. By this time, the 801 and 90 had been replaced by the 910. The 70E was still offered. ($500)
