Pink Lady's Slipper

White Lady's Slipper

Anyone have any local wild orchids in their woods?

We have pink ones like those somewhere on the farm.  My wife keeps track of them better than me.

I also have some yellow ones I'm going to take back to the woods this spring. I transplanted them from an area that was harvested, which is now regenerated enough I think for them to survive. Yellow ones are less common here. I see pink and white ones all the time in the summer.

The pink ones are found here in spruce swamps in dark areas. I have seen the yellow ones in hardwood stands but rare here.

I took some pictures last spring.

Think I've seen the yellow ones , also.

Don't have any pics and can't get any this time of year but we have something called a showy orchid as will as the occasional lady slipper.

Someone has a pretty weird idea of subtropical...  :o
So, how did I end up here anyway?

We have wild lavender ones in the bogs around the lake. :)  My wife and I have 30 or so tame ones in the basement under grow lights for winter. ;D  They like the cool summers outside in Northern Wisconsin.
Orchids are great plants to grow if you have enough some are always in bloom.  We have some that bloom for 6 to 8 months at a time.
Most of ours like 50 to 60 at night these are from high tropical mountain cloud forests like down in CR ::)
