Welcome to the Forestry Forum, artenvielfalt. There are actually several sawyers and kiln makers and woodworkers as members here.

Have you done a check of the members map ??  It lists some of them.

KYPE

:D HI,last time i looked Scotland was still in Europe, or has someone forgot to tell me we moved.Yes we even use German machines!. All the best Kype.

artenvielfalt

ok, looked at the map and found some  on this side of the big water,...
but the real exchange as in the forum, don´t know why are the germans so lazy  or is it not such a nice group of people to talk of good and bad experiences.  i like the contact and to other millers and to see what happened to them and maybe not to make the same mistakes or prevent someone to make some i did.  well guys thanks for the reply and take care got to go to my shop again tomorow and have a nice staircase to build out of alder, part of which i i have sawns and dried myself.
ok folks  till next time.
maybe the europeans like to tell me what kind of mill you use and what are your experiences with the customers over here.
thanks again and good night here and have a nice day over there

Great idea at the invites artenvielfalt! Swede is right on, we are just a big happy family.

Once in a while we may have a little disagreement between members (AND YOU TWO KNOW WHO I AM TALKING TO!), but we all have real concern for one other and a real thirst to learn and do all we can to help each other. Swede does not even make fun of my limited ability to speak english! Now that is a true friend!  :)

Iain, I'm hoping he gets caught in the tail wind of one-O-dem Hurrycanes, and lands in Florida. I'd make a special trip to see him, or ANYONE from the East side of the Big Lake.  8)

VA-Sawyer

Artenvielfalt,

What does your logon name mean ? Where in Germany are you located ? I spent 4 years in the Bitburg area. (It is close to Trier) That was back in 1971-75.  Things have really changed over there since then.  Glad to have you here on the forum.

Nice to hear from U, uncle Harold!  ;D
Yes, I´m still cleaning up and people now calls me for sawing even when I´ve not been in the paper. Here is -23C today so I stay at home today.
Welcome in here for  cup of coffee when You´re passing by! :D

Amerika-Sågen has cost me SEK80 000 ($10 670) I produce ~0,4M3 /h. working alone.

Last saturday there was written in the paper about a mobile circle sawmill working around here. A very nice KARA mill powered from a 120-150 hp. tractor. The cost for such a machinery I guess would be ~SEK1 000 000 ($133 300) He produce 2M3 /h, two more men for working with logs and lumber for using the sawmill what it´s rated for. He needs SEK200 ($27)/h for running the sawmill, 4 x more place at the plant. More time for moving and set up.

Guessed and counted some and found that the cost /M3 sawn lumber for the customer would be about the same!
Think that´s the guy I met on ELMIA two years ago and wich I can meet him again now. But these cirkular sawyers use to not hear so good after some years listening to big engines and a screaming circle. (And you know who I´m talking to) So some of them nice guys use to shout sometimes....... :D  ;)

ok, on artenvielfalt that is a word game lets say,
art like art
and then en like and or en in french  or und as in german
then vielfalt in english that means " lots of things"
so the name for my carpentry business is like art and lots of things  means i do all you can imagine and artful work and design and,.... well all.
and yes Jeff B. is right it is Biodiversity which kind of means the same. and i have tha name from my biology studies that i did years ago.
so much for that.
hey swede what kind of machine do you use and did we meet at the elmia last year? i was showing the peterson over there.

Scroll down the topics page and click on ''behind the Forum''. DanG put instructions on there under ''posting photos'' that seems to help folks get the posting thing figured out.

Went to the website. REALLY neat things you make. I love using weird shape logs to make lumber. That freestanding shelf is something I might build in my house.

  Nice work.  8) 8)

ulf;

Look to the left of this message. There´s an icon to my archive. From that You can go to [More Pictures]. Most of them are from the storm we had here last year but there are also pictures showing my saw mill. I don´t know what brand but it´s a mobile band mill from early -90. It was manual when I purchased it 2 1/2 years ago. Have built on hydraulic and electric equipment for easier and faster sawing.

I wasn´t at ELMIA last year but someone told me there was a sawinger. I don´t think there is any swingers in Sweden.
