Mid week on the new job. I've picked up a job working for the "man" as a maintence electrician/mechanic in a local saw mill.

The mill is medium sized I guess about 50k a day for output.
so far I've noticed two things. ElectricAl is not the only one to get really crooked logs to cut and the owner is a grumpy old guy.  Are all them mills like that?

Hey Al,

Been there done that, When I hang one up like that at home I use the bobcat on the back side of the mill to lift it off.

I have a couple of 2 1/2" pipes about 2 foot long that I can slide over the log stops, I use them when I have a log like that or when the log is really large.

  Is the mill okay ?  ???I think that would make you a littl grumpy if that happened. I 'm   not a mill owner YET  but I think I would be asking myself some interesting questions  .

We have a set of pipe extensions for the log stops. I just did not realize there was a hole >:(

Used our Toyota forklift to correct my problem ;)

      I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one to get the pride and joy of some of the woodworking class...But I'm also very proud and happy when I give them there bill ....

Al, that one looks like a refugee from Hiroshima. :D Was it petrified, too?
I don't worry about logs like that. The mill will trim them quicker and with NO perspiration than you could do with a chainsaw. I just turn the "best" face up and go for it. ;D  Trimming those stubs off may add 2 minutes to the cutting time.

Diffferent folks-different strokes,  I probably would have cut the stobs off first(unless the customer wanted them sawn) before bringing it in, so as not to have to handle those big pieces on the mill.  Mine always drop and find there way under the mill :D :D

That 2 leg pig did not squeel long ;)

I trimmed off the fat and went right for the bacon ;D

DanG, DanG you got it right about trimming the stubs on the mill. I flush cut the top one, flipped it over, flush cut the other one, then turned the cuts at a 45 degree and started sawing.

I don't recall what the bill was. I took the photo a year ago, but just never got around to posting it.

We charge by the hour for goofy stuff for two reasons. First is to encourage them not to bring the crap in. Second, they need to pay for wasting my time.
