Can anyone tell me if hackberry can be used for construction grade lumber such as 2x4 or 2x6.

My dad skidded a 18 foot hackberry out of the woods that fell over when the creek washed out the roots on the corner.

It is 26" at the base and 24" at the small end and appears to be solid as a rock.  (Unlike most Hackberry I have seen)

I thought about cutting it up for construction lumber on the farm.  I am planning on building a woodshop devoted to woordworking ONLY and thought this may add to the 2X's I have already for that project.

Thanks for any input.

Do you want to build one big A** rocking chair? My expeience with long hackberry is that it warps and twists like crazy. We cut all our hackbery as short as possible. It is sufficient for 2x4's and such. I would nail it up ASAP.

It makes a very white wood.  Hard to work.  Used to be used a little for furniture making in the South.  I have a wood rockingchair with the top crosspiece (whatever you call it) made from hackberry.
I think you'll be better off working with short pieces of hackberry than long ones.
Let us know how it turns out.
