I am getting ready to build a new deck and would like to have cedar post on each corner (to hold up the deck and brace the roof also) of the deck for a more rustic look. My question is after I obtain my cedar logs do they need to dry out before I use them for this application?   Thanks for any input,

Your profile does not indicate where you are located and also, what kind of Cedar are you dealing with?

Any wood post set in concrete is generally a bad idea.  Gravel/rocks would be a better idea.  I built a deck out of Cherry, but used treated lumber underneath and steel pipe in concrete for support.
