Hi fellas
I opened my mouth and agreed to build a small timber framed something for my friends jack and Jill (stag and doe) to be auctioned off.
Any ideas?
He's a start ...
Hammok stand
Small trellis
Sign holder
Small man-door roof/entrance thing
.....
Thanks guys

Jim_Rogers

Here's one that is quick and easy:

Let me know if you need a set of plans.

Good ideas, the mailbox seems a little bit on the boring side (no offence jim). I feel like I've seen or come across a perfect project in the past but I just can't think of it...

Sounds like the perfect excuse to build a trebuchet!

That was going to be my first suggestion, too!
So how about a trestle table instead?

YEAH  8) Grand nephew built a small one about a foot high for a high school physics project. DanG thing will fling a golf ball 50 yards and hit the same spot plus or minus 2 feet. amazing. I wanna build a BIG UN..

Well, if you do build one, let me know about it Here.

I've been gathering tools and resources to build mine, slowly, for a few years now.

Wood burning country?

How about M/T wood rack?  Mine is ca. 50" L X 20 " w x 80 " H. 4" ash slightly irregular stock  I milled.  Tennons were ca. 1", 1/2" pegs, tapered shouldered M/T joints for the bottom/bearing "tie beams".  All other joints/tennons also 1" but not purposely given an excess shoulder as they were not bearing beams.

I used it as a project to learn scribe rule layout using divider/compass, plumb bob and chalk line .

I load it with 10-14 days worth of wood, about 50-55 cu ft of 24" cordwood,

I posted some pictures here long ago showing some of the joints/layout.

zelpatsmot

O yea wood rack not a bad idea, quick and easy. But.....

A trebuchet would throw stuff

There will be lots of hunters there, deer, rabbit, coyote, moose ect.

Clay bird (discs) throwers are popular with the bird hunters. How about a trebuchet rigged up to throw clay rabbits?!  They roll along the ground faster and further the better...

Could a trebuchet be set up to roll clay discs? Hmmmmmmmm

Well you have to put a moon in the door to give the neighbors something to talk about . ;D

Todd

i think you build the trebuchet and then charge for turns shooting it ;D

Rooster

I want to change my answer...

Build a trebuchet...that throws outhouses!!!!

Eh? Eh?

Outhouse tossing. Soon to be the national sport no doubt. I was a party to outhouse tipping back when there were some. Not a big deal unless the privy were occupied at the time. Much ado if it was.

Oh...I had to laugh. You guys are something else!

I do like the firewood rack idea for a future project for myself.
I did some chainsaw milling, learning sketchup & timber framing for home projects but not an expert..... I learn as I go and go as I learn.

Well yeah something else alright. My wife asked me why I act this way. It took her a while to figure out it wasn't an act. ;)

On the other hand when I romanced the then young lady I had had a chance meeting with that she was in for the time of her life. She's figured that one out too and the fact I wasn't embellishing when I told her that. :D

Brad_bb

Since you may need to appeal to more just outhouse lovers or tossers...

How about a timberframed archway?  My mom has one that leads to her backyard/garden.  It's painted white.  Probably more people could find a place for such a thing in their yard, or sell it to someone else who would.  You could use straight members, or get some experience making some curved members.

Another idea is to make a frame for a Gazeebo.  Just make the frame, and provide plans/instructions for the base and finishing of the Gazeebo?
Anything someone can design, I can sure figure out how to fix!
If I say it\\\\\\\'s going to take so long, multiply that by at least 3!

Darn brad has to come and kill the fun talk ha
Thanks for getting the thread back on track.
Yea a walkway/entrance thing could be done, I've done curve work but no live edge stuff though.

There's still the 'perfect' project out there ....

10 bucks for 3 shots, hit the groom with a waterbaloon 100 yards away, gold mine.

Al_Smith

Better a water balloon that a water melon.

Rooster

I want to change my answer...

10 bucks for 3 shots to hit the MIL with an outhouse full of watermelons from 100 yards...Win-Win!   :D

Just tell her that you want to take her some place special for a once in a lifetime gift.

Too much fun!!!
