Last November I loaded up my solar kiln with 1500" of 6/4 quarter sawn red oak, green off the saw. I ran the fans for about four weeks with the vents closed, then shut them off. The last few days have been fairly nice, with temps up in the high 30's low 40's. So today I waded through waist deep snow up to the kiln to fire up the fans. Out of curiosity I checked moisture content and I'm already down to 15%.   8)

Cool, Chet!  I don't think you could ever shut the fans off in a kiln, down here, for more than a day. We get days in the 50's and 60's even in the coldest part of winter.
How do you evacuate all that moisture with the vents closed? Maybe you chip it out with a  chisel? :D :D
