Jeff

I've completed scanning all of the documentation I have for the "Folding Sawing Machine".  I happen to have one of these on my mantle. The documentation I have, supposedly came form the daughter of one of the salesmen for the company. That is how she happened to have the had written testimonial letters submitted to go into their catalog/manual.

Here is a photo of mine on the mantle, a photo from the manual, preceded by a link to look at all of the documents I have.

A very ingenious tool !

Do you have any idea how popular it was?

They must have been fairly popular, as you can still find them. If you look at the last half of the manual pages, they are all testimonials.

Jeff, Does the brochure have a red cover? The engravings look just like the ones i have in my brochure, really high quality printing job. I think their advertising was better then their product !!! ;D I looked closely at my saw yesterday and seems at one time in its life powder post beetles got at it. I know of one other in the area and both were never used enough to wear the labels off them. Heres a picture of mine ,the opposite side from Jeffs up on the mantle. Don

Have you ever used it? How well does it work?
If it was easy, everyone would be doing it!

Neat gadget. Jeff, I think there might be a couple of square inches on your mantle for something else. :D

I scratched mine back and forth across the little piece of oak the saw is inand made  little bit of sawdust but that was it. The ends of the clamp that holds it in the wood are cast and very blunt they dont want to hold in the wood very well. Don

loggah, don't feel bad,the wife has wild blue.   ::)  I have dial up on my dinosaur lap top. Does pictures quite while. Like jeff's postcard thread it does real good. But noticed lately on a few threads the dial up just dies on some pictures. If cable came up here we would be on it.
Jeff I read the first page,New and Improved,   :D  I see the advertising has not changed a bit.  :D

It looks to be an interesting tool (machine) but doesn't look to be labor saving vs. just hand sawing through the log.
No advantage other than standing upright rather than sawing on your knees.
Seems that by the time this machine was positioned and tied down to the log that someone just going about sawing would be more than half through the cut.
Not meaning to be so negative, but it looks like a lot of work getting ready to saw a log and moving to the next cut.
Neat relic to have tho.  :)

I look at the title of this thread and keep seeing Folding Sewing Machine.  Just a little dyslexic I guess.  Cool sawing machines.  My neighbor has a brand new one with Sears and Roebuck tags hangin on the wall of his shop.  Never been used.

I found the post from a decade ago when I acquired mine. There is a real crappy video clip of trying to saw with it.  I was not impressed. :D

Lookie here, I heard a rumor,go see this guy. I followed it up, I then bought a raker gauge from the guy and he said, tell ya what, I think I might be able to help you out. Here is my number. Call me if you ever get to Escanaba. I did and he said "Meet me at the Kmart parking lot in escanaba just off of highway 2, near the entrance, I'll be driving a blue Dodge"

Well, Tammy and I followed the instructions and about 10 minutes after getting there Zolton, yes I said Zolton, drove in in his blue dodge. We leaned over the back of his truck and looked at the various wooden parts and the metal castings and the box of bolts that he had gotten for doing some work for a friend. It was hard to say what the whole thing was but the big 6 foot blade that came along with it was a good clue. Zolton? He said I aint got a clue. The guy said it was all there and it was a drag saw.

After a great conversation about this and that and an exchange of very little cash, Zolton and I said goodbye and agreed to meet again at a future engine show.

Fast forward to me back at the cabin scratching my head looking at the same bunch of stuff in the back of my truck. :o :D I spent the last two days thinking about it and then today I set to work. (play!!) Here is the results.

It don't look like you was straining much. Don't look like it was cutting much either. Interesting design. What was supposed to be the advantage to using it?
Two LT70s, Nyle L200 kiln, 4 head Pinheiro planer, 30" double surface Cantek planer, Lucas dedicated slabber, Slabmizer, and enough rolling stock and chainsaws to keep it all running.

The testimonials are hilarious.  I think there may have been a bit of solicitation.  ffsmiley  It would be a great museum piece, or for youth to try and see what work really is.  One guy cut "9.5 cord of firewood in 10 hours"! ffcheesy
