I have a 2 year old LCD TV, and it has a USB 2 port. I figured I'd check out the website of the manufacturer to see what this does. Well turns out you can display jpeg photos for one, through this port. But it also upgrades the firmware in the TV. So, I located an update, which was around 6.4 MB, not too bad for a dial-up connection to download. The instructions on the website were pretty simple. Just extract the file to a blank USB thumb drive and insert into the TV USB. Then select OK with the remote arrow < > keys and ENTER. After completed, cut the power and turn it back on. Goes through setup and the deal is done. My upgrade fixed the volume control. I could turn the thing way up on a channel and it wouldn't hardly increase. I had lots of volume from VHS and DVD's, but not tuner channels. Now I have lots of volume. ;)

Update your TV's. ;D

My TV that I brought new almost 20 years ago just died. Found another in someones driveway for free. Might weigh almost 200 pounds, :o but it was free. I almost knocked on the door and told them I will give you 20 bucks if you help me load your free TV.  :D

 8) Ain't that an upgrade?  ;D

I've got 17 year old color TV, and it was twice as much as my newer one. The old one was 14", this one is 27".

Ever since the 90's, most large screen TV's I've owned last about 6 years and they get cheaper every time. :D

The one that just died was probaly a 3 footer. This one is 32 inch. I don't watch alot of TV,but when I do watch it,I like it big. The only reason I brought the other TV was a girlfriend and me broke up and I could not watch the X-Files.

mine is 5 yrs old now, not sure if it has the USB port, will have to check, but the last 6 months or so it is having BOOT UP issues.   It is a Samsung 42" LCD and plays a chime when it boots up.   Well lately it plays it 2 or 3 times prior to coming on.   and last 3 or 4 days it has done this 5 or more times prior to coming on.

I'm thinking it sure could use a BIOS UPDATE.  lol   man I HOPE SO.

Just as cheap to buy as to fix, so might as well take home a new one. :)

Not even sure what 1/2 the things my TV can do. Has USB, memory card readers etc. Apparently it can record to USB memory sticks etc.  And that's just a cheap Sanyo.

One important note regarding firmware updates:

Make sure you have stable power when you do one.  If power is interrupted during a firmware update, you can 'brick' your device (ie. turn it into a brick).  Sucks when that happens.

The folks have the same brand name TV as I, and I just found updates for their TV as well. There TV is a couple years older.

I'll bet mine does not need updating, (or maybe the whole thing needs updating).  I think it still uses vacuum tubes.   :-\
