In reading this week, our story was The Great Kapok Tree. In addition to identifying the benefits we derive from trees and forests, such as oxygen, habitats, etc, the kids spontaneously brought up things like jobs, paper, wood, employment and so on.

We had a really good discussion on the issue of land use!

Great!!!
Have you contacted the Michigan Forest Resource Alliance (MFRA) for their teacher education program and information? They may be able to help you some if needed and desired.

Rav Kid:

Sophisticated bunch of youngsters you have there. Nice to hear them mention jobs.

Ron is right. Contact MFRA and tell them you would like a presentation for your classroom.

Did you get my particleboard replies? If not I'll reply again. The mean old web master was working on the programming while I was posting and I haven't been able to reply since.

Keep bragging!

As you seem to be the only primary school educator around this board, I thought this might be of interest to you.  If your school has a small wildflower and native prarie grass garden, perhaps you might put together one of these to help with a predator/prey trophic level and energy flow lecture.  If you lack a garden, then you can always contact your local conservation district for help in putting one in.  They almost always have pre-mixed seed packets for sale.

Once on this page, click on the hatchery link.  I suppose that I'm the one bragging now!  ;D
On the plains of hesitation lay the blackened bones of countless millions who, at the dawn of their victory sat down to rest, and resting, died.
