I need to add a saw to my line up  ;D I have a MS261 and a 046 Magnum so I am thinking about a new MS 362 to fill the gap between the 261 and 046. I normally just cut firewood for my owbWhat are the pros and cons of the 362 ? Is there a better saw to fill this gap ?

celliott

Never ran one, but some will say a better saw to fill that gap is an MS361   :D
IMO  ;D A husky 357XP or 562XP would fill the gap nicely. But then I just like huskys  8)

I'm sure you'd like the 362 however, if you liked you're other Stihls.

bear_hunter,welcome to the forum. What kind of OWB you got? How are you getting the trees out of the woods?

I have a Central CL6048.   I have a 79 Ford F250 with a flatbed that I haul the wood out on if I can get close enough. If I am cutting on the neighbors I use my quad with a Yukon Tracks trailer to get the wood out.

Welcome.
If you get the MS362, you will likely fill more than just the gap. Might not pick up either one of the other two saws. ;)

beenthere I have thought about that ! LOL  ;D My plan is to maybe move the wife up to the 261. She has been limbing and cutting some smaller stuff with a MS 192 T. I have some 40" plus oaks that the 046 will probably get used on.

I agree with the above on a MS 361 if you can find a good one.
Other than that the MS 362 is a good saw.

Welcome to the Forestry Forum. :)
The MS361 or 362 are both great saws. I own a 361 and have run the 362s.

I wouldn't call the MS362 a great saw, but each to their own.... ;)

The 361 is though, at least the German made ones.

What a surprise that you'd disagree.

I would.  We use them daily--just like we did with the 361s. Indeed, they both are great saws!

ST - If you'd prefer, I've got some white out and can scribble "mode in Deutschland" on the saw. Perhaps, that will make the 362 more appealing in your mind...      smiley_thumbsup

The ones they sell here are made in Germany, as far as I know....

Unless your wife is experienced with chainsaws and has excellent upper-body strength, I'd be hesitant to move her to the MS261. A good option might be a MS 211 C-BE. Do you find that there's too much of a gap between your MS261 and MS460? If so and you're committed to Stihl, maybe wait to see how the MS362 C-M is working out; for one, the air filter seems to be a much better design than on the standard 362.

Just port the 261. That will/should eliminate the need for a 60cc saw and you'll save $ too

The 362 is a very nice in between of what you have now. I was in the same boat as you with a 260 pro and a 044. Bought a 361 and now its the saw I grab the most. Unless I no I am going to be needing my 044,066, or 090G they stay home and I go with the 260pro and the 361. Both have been ported and are really fun to run and can make wood fast.

Just my 2cents worth
