Traveling ain't what it used to be with 2 young kids in the picture. There was a time I wouldn't think twice about driving 24 hours straight if I had a driving buddy (did it in 2004-Yosemite National Park to Russellville, Arksansas, nonstop). But I am old and weak now.

I wonder if there is a maximum allowable weight for carry-on? If I can squeeze 50 lbs of grits in my backpack it ought to last him most of the year.

JohnM, grits go great with seafood!  Can't have a fish fry around these parts without a pot of cheese grits.  Never had grits with lobster, but shrimp 'n grits - mmmm, make you slap yer granny!  digin1

Dodgy,coming close to Chesterville in your travels?

We are flying into Portland and driving up the coast to Acadia National Park. Is that close to Chesterville?

If you are taking Hwy 1 & 3, then no, but eat a lobster roll for me.

The coastal route is beautiful.  Give yourself enough time as It will take all day to get there from Portland.

The airport is 2 hours away,Acadia National Park,Bar Harbor,is 4 hours away. I worked at Acadia for 2 summers. Magicman is better on Route numbers than I am. I know how to get there,I just go.  ;D
Bring something warm. Acadia is cold at night and early morning. Would be 90 at high noon,50 at night and this was in July.

We traveled that route along with many others in '95. It was a 9,000 mile trip.

I have the Rand McNally out this morning.    No water travel but some navigating.  We will not be traveling any many Interstate Hwys.

Just stop at the place on Caps Browning Road where you see a big whack of logs, a huge sawshed, and a bear on the driveway.  That will be the place.

We are now planning on driving most of the way Thursday and spending that night at Chewacla SP at Auburn.  Friday, it will be a relatively short trip on 96, 341, & 117 to Jake's place.
