I've been sawing a lot lately. Many thousands of bf of ERC, SYP, and now sawing post oak for trailer decking orders. Then back to sawing syp and much more ERC after that. I cannot keep up. I get off work, get to the mill and make lumber until midnight 2-3 nights per week. I've got a guy that finds and delivers the logs to the mill during the day, and I saw'um up at night and sell it green. It took me a while to get used to sawing under lights but I'm getting the hang of it fairly well. Uploading a bunch of pictures as we speak.

I just uploaded a pile of photos that cover some of the sawing I've been doing over the past several months.

I'll start off with this 41" diameter longleaf pine log that had over 300 growth rings. This was definitely the highlight of my sawmilling career thus far. I bought a Stihl MS661 and got a 42" bar so now I can split them in half to fit on the mill. I can't do it like CustomSawyer, but I gave it my best shot.

Then opened it up and was completely blown away.

Finally got each half on the mill and started whittling away.

Check these out...Look how different the lumber looks!?!!! All from same log.

This was all done back in September. As I was sawing this log, I was smiling ear to ear because this was the opportunity of a lifetime for anyone who is interested in the history of our Longleaf Pine ecosystem and how impressive it was years ago.

I've got many more photos of poplar, cedar, black walnut, etc to post but presently out of time. More to come.

No new chainsaw for me because I believe that I solved my problem with cranking the MS310.  As I previously said, the problem was not with the saw but pulling the rope when the saw was really cold was hurting my knuckles.  I needed a way to transfer the pulling from my fingers to my hand.

A simple strap solved the problem.

Loop it around the pull handle and....

tighten across the back of my hand.  I may do some modifying but this worked extremely well.  It comes off quickly and even a kickback was of no issue.  I think that a small wide dog collar would also work but I am satisfied with this strap which allows me to snug it up.  :)

@Deese  as a reminder to everyone, so I am not going to post this behind the scenes.  Our rules for posting photos are you only upload photos that are going in a post and we do not direct people to our galleries to see photos that have not been used in a post. The forestry Forum servers are not limitless in the room for photos. If people upload piles of photos it will shorten the expected server room life of the Forestry Forum by years.

Please delete any photos that have not been used in a post and listen close everyone, NEVER EVER delete a photo that has been used in a post already.
I can change my profile okay. No errors. If you can,t remove all the extra info in other fields and try.

This one split as soon as I dropped it in the truck as did the center cut slab that had the pith but the others turned out good

Mr Jeff, I completely 100% understand. My intention was to "catch up" with everyone letting them know what I've been sawing lately. I now see my error. I went ahead and uploaded all that I was intending to immediately post but ran out of time posting them all because I had to leave work. And my statement about "uploading a pile of photos"  resulted in inadvertently directing people to my gallery. Before I could return and post them all. Complete screw up on my behalf that was not intentional. Having said that, I just saw this while on the road so I decided to park at a truckstop and post this. Here are a few things I've sawed latey:

Doc - did you bring your mill up to Alaska with you? Just wondering how many issues there are with customs and all.  A family friend purchased a lot up there and has asked me about coming up and possibly sawing out a house frame.

sorry to mislead you southside.  It is called camp Alaska due to being a winter campout.  25° daytime and 12° at night.  each station is named after an Alaskan town.  it is 40 minutes west of Hutchinson, Ks.  about 3 to 400 scouts, light this year due to weather. some come from out of state Mo and Ok.

I was going to ask the same question! :D  Our troop went to "Klondike" last weekend in an area between Truckee and North Shore, Lake Tahoe.  It warmed up that weekend.  Overnight temp was -4°F, daytime 36°F.  Our troop hadn't been to the big district camp in 10 years or so.  They had two sledges to run the races.  They were competing with 21 other patrols and ended up wining nearly all the competitions!

Yes the "country" kids love it and the "city" kids see and experience stuff they cannot believe.  Some of the troops were begging for the slabs and wood cut offs for signs and benches.  Scouts is good for kids and helps keep the grown ups young as well.  Planning next year.

Deese, I love that cedar.  I wish I had more of it around here on my land.

Nothing much to report here other than I finished sawing all the SYP and red oak logs I had.  I was a bit frustrated as I opened up a box of resharpened blades and right off the bat they are set wrong (see pic).  Next one was ok though so I was able to finish.  I am spending the week at home evaluating my sawing needs as I hit the 75% benchmark of all the timber cut for my home plans.  Near as I can figure out, I will need to drop 9 more pine trees to finish my dimensional lumber needs.

I found some shortleaf pine in the bottom land that reach to 120', straight as an arrow with no branches until the top 20'.  I hope to drop a few of them for some of the longer boards I need for trusses.   I am actually looking forward to the challenge of dropping them.
