My brother in law and I are wanting to harvest our acreage of many nice sawlogs and veneer logs.  Hard maple and red oak mostly.  Also lots of beech and ash.  Where can I research the recent trends in log and veneer prices?  A logger recently told us that the prices are down compared to a year ago.  Another said they were high.  Just wanting to educate ourselves a little so we can get a good idea of what we are in for and be able to feel comfortable with a logger and the process of selling.  Thanks in advance. ???

Everything except hardwood pulp is down.  Hardwood pallet bolts are hard to move right now unless you've got aspen and basswood bolts then you can leverage the mills into taking the hardwood  ;) ;D  Veneer, sawlogs and sugar maple flooring bolts are still moving but they've taken a hit.  At least fuel prices are down too.
Where in the NW Lower are you?  It's a big place.  If you can wait a bit on your harvest it wouldn't hurt you.
