Just got finished reading through the thread on "Workflow on manual mill working solo"

Which made me think that it's time to figure out how I want to design my milling operation.
I'm going to be moving my Woodmizer out to my property from my home in town.
I have too much (??) land so space isn't a problem.
I have the space to stack logs. First problem solved.
I do want to get the mill under roof. I will also create a place to keep the lumber under roof in the same area.

Equipment I have to work with?
Log Arch.
ATV 800cc
UTV 700cc
Backhoe
HeavyDuty FEL
May end up with a telehandler

How would you design an area for a portable mill (that I won't be moving)?
I like the idea of, and will have to build a trailer to sit next to the mill to offload. Homebuilt Pallets (of what length) to stack the lumber.
My mill loading deck will be out of cants at 1" above the mill's deck and long enough to handle a days logs. (a couple of feet at my age  :D)

There is so much knowledge here, I just can't justify doing it from scratch myself when I have this resource.

Again, on my place and no desire to move to another site. I will have an unlimited supply of logs for the foreseeable future. Not including the 5 log truck loads of Pacific Red Cedar I have stacked already to start my real log home.

Ed,
You might try a forum search by typing in "mill shed" or some variation of that. There are a lot of nice designs out there.Make it as open as possible and still provide protection for you and the mill.Peter Drouin has a very nice mill shed,Dave Shepard has one under construction as well.
Best of luck to you and Bern. You just might catch some good natured flack but not from me. ;D ;D

I'm not sure I want to have everything in inside one shed. The mill, yes. The lumber yes. However, I'll look through what you offered. I appreciate the help. Just got to thinking.

Not a problem or a worry. It's very possible, I might end up with the bigger smile. It's getting warmer every day. Wink

Hi Ed, I drive through your area quit regular, have friends that live off Rainbow Rd, North end of town,  I have a place out of Bonanza so use Sprague River Rd, Bliss Rd most of the time.  I am also in the process of setting up a circle mill so find any comments interesting. maybe some time we can compare notes. chris

here are some of my plans and ideas.

I moved the stuff on the right side to the left. that way i can use my right hand for the throttle and my left hand to hold a ladder.
