Has anyone read any literature on firewood choice causing premature stove pipe failure etc? I have been thinking about this since seeing a firewood pellet conveyor that was being rebuilt. The sawdust being used was oak and this mostly metal drag chain conveyor was on the exhaust side of the pellet machine. It was amazing how eaten up the chain was and it had been completely rebuilt within the previous year. I have heard that oak is hard on equipment so I was wondering if OWBs that burn a lot of oak are prone to early leaking.

That was a moisture problem and green oak does rust things quick, if you ever pounded nails in fresh cut red oak the nail rusts fast. Burn dry oak and no problem.
