I have an old AL42 Lombard with the Comet clutch. Cannot seem to find a tool to fit, and the sockets I have are not big enough to cut out and make one. I know up to the 42 ,Lombard shared parts with Homelite. Maybe later ,not  sure on that. Does anyone know if the old Homelite tools will work, or have any answers? Thanks for any help.

I've got three of them in the shed I'll look at .I've never found a clutch I couldn't remove .

I finally got a chance to look at one and never paid attention before ,it's an inboard clutch.Meaning the drum is on the outside like a Stihl .Needless to say I didn't remove the drum but would assume it to be a screwed on clutch using a center carrier .
If that be the case it will be left hand threaded .You can knock it loose by using either a drift punch or a brass rod against the carrier and the appropriate sized hammer .Not meaning a 12 pound sledge .You will want to remove the recoil starter first because other wise by going against the starting mechanism in reverse rotation it will be damaged .

I just pulled the clutch on a Pioneer. None of my tools would fit. I had a thick steel mending plate and put 1/4" bolts in at the proper distance between clutch holes. Rope in plug hole and whack plate. I find this better than whacking the spider/carrier because I always chip it up.

This should do it for the picture help.

I like to go to whatever post or start a new topic first to include a picture.Go to your gallery,it will open in a new window.Click onto your album, then click onto whatever picture you want,it will get bigger, than scroll down a little to find,Insert Image In Post, click onto that, click Yes and that is it. Some have to copy/paste the link to work.I like to hit the enter key at least once or twice to move the picture down away from what I am typing. The enter key really helps to leave some white space if posting more than one picture or posting a comment. Use the preview button to see how it looks and modify it if needed.

You have done all the hard work correctly, just use the "Insert image" tag, not the "hyperlink"

Thanks, thecfarm and Ianab. I was trying <img src = ...... and that sure didn't work.  img /img is sure easier.

Back to clutch removal....I think a body could go broke buying special clutch tools for every oddball clutch that comes along!

Some times you just have to be creative on some of this stuff .At one time the only way to remove a Stihl flywheel was with a special tool only available through a dealer or flea bay at a premium prices .Being some what of a penny pincher I made them from metric hydraulic fittings .Now of days they are available for a reasonable price .

On a side note having worked on a multitude of German made machinery it seems the mind set is to design stuff that repairs of same are only available through the company that made the item .Good stuff ,I'll say that but they forgot one item in the quest for control of after market --yankee ingenuity  8)
