I had several firsts today.  I used my log skidding setup for the first time today.  Basically I have golf cart wheels mounted on a 36" axel that I set one end of a log on.  The other end gets picked up with tongs hanging from an apparatus mounted to my 3 point hitch.

Then I used my log loading setup that I made for the mill.  I fashioned it after the hydraulic loaders, but I lift it with a farm jack.  I had this idea, but I also had help from someone here who had the idea before I did.  I can't rememebr his name, but if he sees this he will know.  It worked perfectly to put a 20" red oak on my mill.

Finally I used my mill for the first time since I've owned it.  Milled some nice shingle oak, which had some nice quartersawn figure.  I'm ready to go now.

Nice set up!  Concrete, shelter, log handling equipment. Sawmilling is supposed to be more like work.  That just looks too easy and like too much fun!

Congralations on making sawdust.  Always a good feeling.
YellowHammerisms:

Take steps to save steps.

If it won't roll, its not a log; it's still a tree.  Sawmills cut logs, not trees.

Kiln drying wood: When the cookies are burned, they're burned, and you can't fix them.

Sawing is fun for the first couple million boards.

Be smarter than the sawdust

Nice setup, I have a home made post hole auger that bit the dust today. I think I'll use the first and to make a hitch/log arch similar to the one in your picture ;)
With the right fulcrum and enough leverage, you can move the world!

What I'm using was made to be just a receiver hitch for the tractor.  I had someone weld the bar on there to hang log tongs from.  Now I can move my trailer around and skid logs with it.
