Quick Question. Is there a formula for figuring the weight of green logs? Softwood, Hardwood? If not do some of you pro's have your own way of figuring it? Thanks Randy

Thanks Jeff---------------You Good People have been alot of help to me in the last few weeks(since I been on this Forum). I hope I can help you in some way in the future! One other question while I am here-------Is there another web site on the internet that can help me Identify trees in my area? I use "What Tree Is It?" It is pretty good. Thanks Randy

Jeff

did you try our Tree and plant I.D. forum? We have never been stumped. (pun?)

No I hadn't used that yet. I can pretty much tell most of the tree's in my area, but there are a few I wonder about--------different types of the same------like the pine tree's in my area, they look about the same, but then they don't. I was wondering if there was some picture's that might show the different pines in my area---you know, do I have short-needle pines, hedge row(we call the short ones with limbs all the way to the dirt)  or this pine or that pine or what. I would just like to 100% know what these pines were as well as other tree's. This is the reason I was asking. Thanks Again Randy

Randy,
Just for guesstamate I figure logs at 12 lbs per bdft and boards at 5 lbs per bdft.  This may be a bit off for some types of logs and lumber but in the field it helps for a quick guess.
If you go up to the General board and back a few pages there was a thread about gifts for Christmas and I listed a book in there for Iding trees.  It is good and helps alot on figuring out what they are.  If you can take a photo and post it and tell us where you are located I bet we can figure it out.
