I had just started sawing a small ERC job for a lady and thought I could beat the rain - WRONG.  I got 1 log cut and then RAIN!!!!  Dang-It!

Can't tell from the pic, but it is pouring!  But we need it!  I was hoping to watch football all day tomorrow but looks like I'll have to knock out the rest right after church!

My today was busy.  Three different customers but all hourly rate.  I started out with what the customer said was Green Ash.  I have never seen it nor sawed it so I will take his word for it.  ??   @WDH

The bark.

And the lumber.

Next it was Hickory.  Nothing like dragging it down a gravel road.

All of the Hickory was sawed 2½" live edge.  I used a 4° blade and with the Lubemizer running continuously. (not pulsing)  Notice that the customer brought his generator and fan to keep me cool. ;D

Some of the first customer's whack of lumber.

The second customer was all ERC.  I sawed a variety of different thicknesses, posts, some live edge and some not.

And then came the third customer with this smiley_devil.

Purdy thang ain't it??

The top knot came off with the first pass, and then it would be sawn 2¾" all live edge.

It made some impressive slabs and I again had the Lubemizer going full blast.

I was also impressed with the nails & staples.  Amazingly I kept sawing and finished the log with one 4° blade that cost the customer $25.

I ended up with a good payday plus $34 in tips.  :D

No, one setup and three jobs for three different customers.

Customer #2 brought his logs on a trailer and he and #1 helped each other with the tailgunning.

#3's Pecan log had already been delivered to the sawing site and was done last.  The 2¾" live edged slabs were removed with #1's FEL.

#1 had already done the coordinating with #2 & #3.  I had no idea that there was going to be the second and third jobs until I got there.  I had seen the Pecan logs laying but I did not know that it was to be sawn until I finished with the ERC and they drug it up.  No matter because what I thought was going to be a half day's sawing turned into a very nice day.

I had previously sawn for all three customers at different times.

This was a new twist to an age old portable sawing phenomenon.  I think that I am about finished when the customer drags out another previously hidden log.  :o

This reminds me of the job that I sawed back in June.  I called and told PatD that I should be done by mid-afternoon.

I did not know that there was another pile of logs covered with briers that I had not seen.  :o  I sawed them, finished with a headlight, and finally was able to leave ~8:00pm.   :-\

I quite often saw two jobs for two different customers at one site.  This was the first time that I remember sawing for three.  ;D ;D ;D

Thanks.  I had never seen/sawed anything like it.  The bark resembled Sweetgum and the log ends looked like Tulip Poplar with the distinctive heartwood.  The lumber looked more like Poplar and without the open grain look of any Ash that I have ever sawn.  Different for sure.  :P

Been quiet here. Everyone getting rained out like us in PA? It's been RELENTLESS! :(
Walnut and cherry is only thing I can saw right now...and that's in between rains of Biblical proportions!

These 6/4 wide walnut boards were fun to make!  8)

Next up is a VERY curly hickory. Can't wait to see what treasures await inside!

Plaque/dispaly slabs.  One of those would have been perfect to display this customer's family sword, an 1861 Union officer's sword.

So not sawing anything but got my first shot at stock piling for the future. Local tree company cut down a maple today that was over 60in ABH. Sadly it had rot for about 12 feet from the ground so no chance of splitting it in half but the stuff i will be getting is 45" and below. I will be loading it out tomorrow. I wont be taking everything in the pictures but it will be a little over half of it.

No sawing here for a few days.  There's a little weather system going to hammer us in NC.  My mill has been on a job site under a makeshift shelter built in the middle of a concrete soil and asphalt landfill.  The landfill is in a valley.  The customer and I thought it best to get the mill out of there.

Prepping to provide assistance down east as needed.

Nothing!
Took the week off work so I could get some sawing done but last Saturday I went to an auction and bought about 3300bf of rough sawn lumber and another 600bf or so of reclaimed barn wood/siding. Oh, and there was about 700bf of glued up panels that came from a factory that made cabinet doors and drawer fronts. It's almost all cherry. So now instead of sawing wood I'm hauling wood (1 1/2 hours away). I'm hoping to haul the last of it tomorrow and then I can spend the rest of the week finding a place to put it.

Having a sawmill is hard work, even when you aren't sawing!
Oh, at the auction I also picked up an 18" woodmaster planer and 16" Laguna bandsaw. 8)
