Due to arthritis in the shifting ankle I haven't ridden a motor cycle in years although I do miss it. I've been thinking about a scooter, specifically a Suzuki Burgman 400. Any one with experience please share. I am way passed the stage where I care what someone says about a fat old man on a scooter.

Sounds like a great bike for enjoying the open air experience at a more laid back pace.

I haven't ridden one but we had a guy ride with us that had one. He had a blast and had zero issues maintaining normal highway speeds. As far as comfort and practicality he had all over all most bikes except maybe the Goldwings and for around town I ain't sure he didn't have them beat too. You couldn't buy the upgrades on a "cool bike" for what that costs out the door. Let 'em snicker; you will love it and own the better ride.  8)

Just did a google search, only downside I read was "expensive to maintain". Appears the other cycle companies have comparable machines.

If you want to ride and that's what you can ride then ride on!

Indeed, if you have a bit of coin and want something faster Honda has a few autos. You could probably find some on the used market, I think they were called Hondamatics a while back, but now they are dual clutch automatics. BMW also makes some quick auto scoots.

We had a second hand Sears Robuck allstate motor scooter is in the sixties.  It was handy.

I have both a Wing and a 150cc scooter. The scooter is really nice to zip around on for quick errands. It will do 55 or so, your 400 cc will keep up with anything. The Wing is nice for longer rides but I don't get to ride much anymore. The scooter is easier to balance and get on and off. I don't really care that people giggle about the old dude on the scooter, it parks anywhere! I got the small scooter and made a carrier that slides in the truck receiver. Easy to take places.
