I really have enough land I can go into the middle of it and never see the outside world. That said I can still hear chainsaws and excavators in the distance, both plots of land on each side of mine, are rock/dirt quarrys, since this is the only area in almost the whole of shelburne county with any good fill at all, of course they gotta truck it all out of here. They have a lot to go but once that dirt is gone its just barren low lying flat lands with no good drainage. I’ll be fixing up my property line path with new tags to make sure that scoop doesn’t touch an inch of my dirt. I’d still like to buy them someday . I’d probably just herbicide it all and try for blueberry fields.

Well, I was optimistic, but the dealer says the boat is beyond repair.  They said the on top of the obvious damage in the picture, the whole boat is twisted several inches.  I began looking for possible replacements days ago and it looks like we are going to get this one.  Unfortunately the supply of used Lund boats in MO is almost nil, so I began looking in MN and WI and found several, but this one south of Minneapolis is what we are probably gonna get.  Almost the same boat as before, but with 45 more horses under the hood.  This is a 17' boat with a 115 Yamaha.  Dad had to have another Yamaha.  That made the search much more difficult.  I found a lot of nice boats with Evinrudes, but dad wouldn't have it.  Hard to blame him for that.  I wasn't interested in a 2 stroke either.  He also like this because it matches his F150 perfectly.  I hope buying this boat sight unseen isn't something dumb.

I've flipped a lot of boats over 40 years, and have never seen anything like the price of used boat flesh right now. That's because of the new prices and availability, I know, but wow it's nuts. With that boat and motor combo, if it's in decent shape (from what I can tell from the limited photo) he should be fine.

I'm jealous! :D That would be gone in a heartbeat here, they are in short supply and priced accordingly.

With Lund, roller trailer is no issue.  Some hull manufacturers will void the warranty if boat is put on trailer without full bunks.

Make sure the winch rope stays attached until the boat is in the water..   Nice looking boat.

We are hoping that with the market what it is  the insurance check will be sized accordingly too.  I have no experience with roller trailers, but I can see how it would put a lot more pressure in certain spots, but it doesn't surprise me that the LUnd would be fine with it.  The boat looks from other pictures to be in fine shape.  Looks like the owner doesn't take care of the carpet the way my dad does with his.  Dad has red carpet and its probably easier to keep looking clean when a pike spills its blood.

Got an overdue air brake job.   Dumb part is it is cammed over.    How the hell do I remove the brake drum?   torches?

Tacotodd

BFH, or it's got a major lip on the drum.

On the big hammer part, hit squarely (avoid the studs) at 180 intervals and between studs. Sounds kinda counterintuitive I know, but it works. If it's determined that it's gotten worn to the point of having a big lip on it, it's past the "machine to" limit already, so torch away.

On the whack part, 4 or 5 GOOD ones at most. I've often done it in 3 and I'm not the best HARD shot.
Trying harder everyday.

Not having good luck on the boat situation.  The guy selling the boat has been unreachable for the last 3 days.  Dad was getting pretty annoyed.  I called this morning and a woman answered.  She said he is in the hospital and doesn't know when he will get out.  I feel bad for him, but really disappointed about the boat.

My dumb stunt doesn't match some of yours but I'll 'fess up anyway. A few weeks ago I mislaid my keys. I knew they were here because I drove home and unlocked the door. Fortunately I have a spare set but no house key so couldn't lock up which is no biggie, nobody comes to the back of the house. Anyhoo, I was sitting outside  with my morning coffee and saw something glint in the grass, sure enough the missing keys. They likely fell out of my pocket when I sat down previously. I'll have to put a GPS on the DanG things!

I’ve locked myself out of my truck enough times to make me get in the habit of using a carribeaner clip with my keys and latch it on a belt loop of my pants anytime I’m not using them. Never lose them after that.

I haven't read through 89 pages on here to see if I'm the only one that has perfected the art of the long taper.  But, if you haven't perfected it, it's not hard to accomplish.  Just forget to drop your hydraulic toe lift.  After you make your first cut, rotate the log 180 degrees and leave the toe lift up!  Viola, instant taper.  Now, my next trick is to try to figure out what to use tapered boards for!😡 I only wish I could say I've only done that once, but nay, I cannot.

Well I hate to break the bad news, but you may be the only one that ever did that. ;) Long wedges can come in handy though.

And nobody here has ever sawed into a backstop or put bar oil in the gas tank on a chainsaw either.  :o

Welcome to the club!

I agree with btulloh. I never heard of anyone else making a long wedge by forgetting to lower a toeboard. I'm sure glad I've never done anything like that or sawed into the side supports and for the record, my mill came from the manufacturer with one tip of claw turner shorter than the other. ::)

You don't have to read all 89 , just go back 2 pages and you can see a picture of one somebody put on my mill.

I have had people sneak up on me and put a couple of tapered boards in my fresh sawn stack while I was not looking.  Never actually been able to catch them red-handed yet ::)

What I do to eliminate the wedge board ( ok, maybe not totally eliminate ::)) is to hit both toe board levers every time I roll a cant. Even if I know I didn't lift them I hit the levers. Works every time. Except when I forget. Then it don't work so well. Your results may vary.

Well moosehunter I will agree with that.  I have done this more than once and you would think I would have learned my lesson, but oh no not me.  I will try your advice.  It sounds good.  But I'm sure I'll fall back into my old ways sooner or later.  I see we are the same age. I might also suggest to turn off the cell phone while operating a mill.  The distraction of receiving a call makes you forget where you leave off.

A little off topic but I saw something I considered very dumb yesterday. A tv commercial showed him in his woodshop making guitars, she comes in with glasses and pours two stiff shots of Glenfiddich! I enjoy an occasional glass of good single malt too but that wasn't the place for it.

On the subject of my parent's boat....we are finally heading to MN tomorrow to get it.  The guy was in the hospital for several days.  Seems he had a dumb occurrence last weekend while playing softball.  I had to use a personal day to get out of work tomorrow so dad and I can drive 10 hours to Minneapolis and then turn around and head straight back south.  I'm not sure if we will stop for the night or just push all the way back to STL.  I'm just happy its finally going to happen.

Good for you guys! Bring grease, some tools, and a set of wheel bearings if you have them, just so that you don't need them. ;D Drive safe, that's a long turn around.
On the subject of booze in the shop, nobody would ever confuse me with somebody that doesn't like beer and the very occasional harder stuff. When the first beer gets cracked, the work is done for the day, and it's time to contemplate what the next day's work will be.

I do the same procedure as moosehunter, every time I move the cant, I automatically hit the levers to lower the toeboards, even if I hadn't used them.

Only takes a couple of seconds!

Dad and I left at 0700 yesterday and drove 10 hours to Minneapolis.  We spent about an hour buying the boat and then headed back south 4 hours to Iowa City for the night.  Left there this morning at 0600 and arrived home at 1200.  The boat is in great shape and dad will spend then next few weeks getting it cleaned up and outfitted like he wants.  New fish finder/GPS.  He will install a 3 way battery charger.  The trolling motor that came with it is only 12v so he will likely install it with a second battery.  His old boat had a 24v troller.
