TT and MM that must be the new "Jelly Doughnut" method of quarter sawing or something?  Does it give interesting results?  :D
Just trying something new that I never did before. ::)

1X12 B&B that we sawed last week for the same customer going up.  The exposed as well as the covered limber in the foreground is all 1X12's for B&B.

I had a friend of my neighbor come looking for a bar top, I didn't have anything cut he liked but had this nasty looking log from a dead tree I had dropped a couple weeks ago. I still need to edge the straighter side.

This will be the first piece I've sold. I sent this picture to him and he posted it on Facebook right away. ;D

I have just gotten the Logrite Mega cant hook, WOW what a difference, I can finally role these big logs on the mill without killing myself

I have been buying in and when short chainsaw milling cedar for years now. But that such an ugly log can yield such beautiful lumber never ceases to amaze me.

We had a productive day today.  John sold some cypress "first cut" slabs for more than we made working sawing by the hour today.  We sawed a trailer load of cedar for some guys from Groveland.  It was like getting butter from a duck, but they left with more than they imagined would come from their logs and were very pleased.  We were planning to saw 4x4 live oak after lunch, but the customer cancelled.  We were not disappointed.

After we each ate 3/4 of a BBQ chicken, we sawed some red eucalyptus on an hourly rate.  This stuff is hard but does not seem as hard as live oak.  Later, we sold a cedar slab to a fellow who drove down from Crystal River.  Poor men gotta hustle.

A few days ago, I resawed a hand-hewn beam (elm) for the guy we sawed the eucalyptus for.

Today I chainsawed the last half of the big cherry log into a 24" wide cant.  I should now be able to lift it with the tractor and set it on the mill and hope for some good slabs to come from it.  Dad was helping me.

Sure is satisfying to see your lumber turn into a beautiful project. That house will be there a hundred years from now.

Yes, very much.  I am scheduled to start a 'whole house' framing lumber job on ~March 7th.

I sawed the Oak for the cabinets in 2020.  LINK  (The sawing continues on Reply# 701 on the next page.)

I didn't run the sawmill yesterday or today even though I had two requests for service.  Sometimes I think there should be two of me. :D :D

I did load out two guys today.  One customer snapped a picture.

From past experience around customers I've learned to smile at all times as they always have cameras and some even take videos.......
How you like that loader? Do you move logs with it as well and how does it do on the turf?

Larry

Works great.  Turns on a dime and doesn't tear up the ground.  It is rated for 6,000 pounds, never had a log I couldn't lift.  Traction is much better than a 2 wheel drive truck but not quite as good as a 4 wheel drive.

The joys of portable sawing:

My morning started with this crap.  Five bad ERC "logs" plus the smiley_devil on the left.

The ERC turned out to not be so bad after all and turned out some very respectable lumber

The smiley_devil was sawed into mostly 1X10's with a few 1X12's & 1X8's.

I opted not to saw the crap, but I did leave some skid marks in it as I was closing down, so I started and ended with crap.

This was a "minimum rate" sawing job for a retired LEO but I did not charge him the minimum.

Well, since I forgot to take a picture maybe it didn't happen but I think I got out and sawed one small 7' long Norway Spruce log into 3/4" lumber. Mostly 8" wide but a couple of 6" and 3 - 12" wide. A whopping 103 bf. :D My customer wanted to see how a mill worked and wanted it to put on an interior wall of a cabin he is building or renovating. After I cut the lumber he said he wanted to install it right away and I warned him about shrinkage and such so he asked if I had any dry. It just so happened I did have enough for his small project so I pulled 24 3/4" X 8"X7' boards out of my toilet building stocks, planed one side for him and sent him on his way a very happy man. He was by here a couple of weeks ago and I had planed a couple of small pieces of scrap boards and he had scorched and put a finish on them and liked the look of the spruce the best of what I had available. I was actually glad he took the dry stocks as I think he will be much happier with it.

With our weather and such this was the first log I have cut all year. The mill cranked and ran fine. I suspect this guy will be back. He was going to show the video he took of me milling and tell them that is the lumber he is using. :D I think it is funny when the customers are more excited to see and be involved in the process than the lumber they get.

I backed the sawmill beside these SYP logs this morning.

702 bf of 1X8 and 1X10 lumber, nothing else.

Next we sampled a rotten end sinker Cypress cutoff to determine whether there was anything of value there.

ERC tomorrow.
