Went through that big time last year with the backhoe. Bush mrchanic work is tough work.
I can change my profile okay. No errors. If you can,t remove all the extra info in other fields and try.

Doc,

A fellow came up today and bought all the 1" sheeting I had which wasn't a lot.Approximately 300 bf.Had it stickered in a 2' wide stack and was unstacking and moving stickers out of the way as he loaded on his truck.Got down pretty low in the stack and saw some small bugs flying around but didn't think much of it.After a few more boards I found out what they were.Yellow Jackets had built a nest in the lumber. They were a lot smaller than the ones I've ran into in the fall but after getting stung several times I found out they hurt just as bad.Didn't realize that they would build a nest in a stack of lumber.

Thanks Tim.  you are right I am sadly getting conditioned.  It is easier to work when you figure out what is wrong and how to fix it.

I know what you mean Doc.

I'm 62 this year and my shoulders have bothered me for years but this spring it got a lot worse so I went to the doctor. X-rays got me a diagnosis of severe arthritis in my right and just arthritis in my left. Now that's bad enough but I had to do something stupid to make it worse, a couple of weeks ago I got in the night and when I came back to bed half awake went to sit on the bed and swing my legs up. I was only half on and started sliding off, I put my left arm down to stop it but only succeeded in pulling my arm back and pulling the muscles in my shoulder. Today I went to see an ortho specialist and she is sending for an MRI so I can see how bad my dumb move tore it up. I hate picture evidence of my stupidity.  headscratch :uhoh:

My almost doing something dumb today-

I get up at about 430am, make my coffee and head to the covered front porch for some good old fashion praying, smoking a cigarette, and enjoying early morning nature watching. My front porch is only about 2 and a half feet off the ground and we removed the railing from it a few years back, making for a much nicer place to sit and look at things.

Well, a couple months ago my wife brought some weird metal finial type of cage thing home from the flea market that sits nicely on top of a plant vase thing (picture to come, I don't have any right now) and that sits right in front of the front porch in a flower bed on the ground. Nice.

The past few days we've had some quite beautiful moonsets and this morning I could see that the moon was providing some lovely reflected light into the yard, but it was blocked a bit by the covered porch. I leaned out from the porch some to see where the moon was. I found it but I also came very close to my tipping point. Luckily, I was able to reach out and grab one of the porch columns to steady myself. No big deal until I looked down to see that I would have fallen, torso first, on this finial thing that would have likely gone right through me. The steps were right there, I could have just taken one step down and seen the moon.

Eek!

This is the almost culprit. And, yeah, Doc, you got it. I came maybe an inch or two from over-extending the ol' center of gravity, which could have caused a new center of gravity...

Funny how you kinda understand where this is going... :wink_2:

The wife and I have wondered, since taking off the railings (we did the same on a low back deck), who would be the first to fall off either. It ended up being the dog that semi-fell semi-jumped being distracted by something. There was a fair amount of fern cushion, the dog was fine and still tore after whatever it was.

The view of the yard has proven much more valuable than potentially falling.

Hahaha! I don't know, I only use that side of a long porch, but it looks nice there. I told my wife it had the potential to kill me and she didn't move it, but my life insurance policy is decent so...

Put a rubber/tennis ball painted black on that spike then.   still would hurt but it might not gut you.  Just a thought.  ffsmiley

If it is a modern finial, maybe it is designed to accordion and fold up in a crash like a modern car hood.  you can hope.   :usa: :uhoh: ffsmiley

Ya know, now that you mention it I haven't actually touched the thing. It may be made of plastic. If so they did a real good job of aging it and making it look like metal.

I don't think she'd let me jam a ball on there. If I get too worried about it I'll move it to the other side.

I may have mentioned this but I used to live across the street from an old lady who liked to garden. She got around ok but not always great. She also liked to decorate for Christmas with little fake trees, maybe a foot or two tall, that she would drape over "T" posts (like for fencing), then would remove the trees once the season was over. My front porch was aimed right at her side yard where this happened. She never took the t posts out of the ground and it always made me very nervous to watch her bumble around and potentially fall and run herself through with those posts.

Seems like something I'd do after getting extremely frustrated at the dumb grease gun, yelling and cussing, and giving it a what for. When I saw the cap still on I'd give up and have a drink.
