My female outdoor cat is going to Madison next month to get neutered..  She had a kitten and it was getting tame and starting to eat solid food.  Yesterday I went to the garage and found the kitten dead and the back half gone,  Set a box trap and if I get the tom he will be unalived.

Soooo, get neutered and get tattooed?  Now I am wondering about some of these folks that I see walking around that seem to be completely covered with tats. ??  I can see it now, a tat bench with stirrups.  !!!  All in one and done.

There's an Organization out there that is called TNR, which stands for "Trap, Neuter, Return", and they capture Feral cats and well- the rest is self explanatory... The snipped left ear identifies them as having gone through the process.

We have 3 outside/barn cats here and two have the ear notched. All 3 of them just "arrived" here uninvited  I'm OK with this as they are great mousers. They get fed but not a lot. If anymore show up I'm going to trap them and send them to the Humane Society.

PS I believe the most recent is a young intact male and he may have to go.

Had a wild bobcat roaming around my sawmill lately. Never gotten too close, not sure if it's a boy or a she cat. (Would a male be a tom-cat bobcat?)

Either way, I don't think they can be tamed, and a vet wouldn't wanna do a procedure...

Funny thing is that my dog's tattoo is just a little line but it's on his belly quite near where the other evidence would be anyway. Also, my other dog Ruby came from a different rescue place and she is fixed but no tattoo. Probably different policies at different places.

@Magicman, I have heard stories about someone who saw that their newly adopted dog had a tattoo, so they decided to get a matching one. Without realizing what it meant.

Ear notches are done by the feral cat spay neuter projects around here. I have "R" tattooed feral/farm cats to ID ones that were rabies vaccinated. Normally the animal shelters are the ones that tattoo the neutered/ spayed animals. Many shelter animals are microchipped before they are adopted out, those chips are a good thing on pets if somehow they get lost.  We check all the strays that show up.

Yep, the lop off the end of an ear.  That way from a distance you can see if they have been fixed.

Up here most strays end up with ears frozen off. Be hard to tell if their fixed

Wouldn't it be easier just to look for the (lack of the) ball bearing rear end to see if a male had been fixed?

Had a friend that had a cat named timmy.  Well timmy went and played in the traffic and it cost him his tail.  So he was renamed TNT (timmy no tail).

Because of rabies my brother was told he had to vacinate all his cats and bovines.  So when he fed the cats he trapped and vacinated them, however there were two wild ones in the upstairs of the barn.  For those two he used a different procedure.  He chased one out of the barn it went a ways and stopped and got vacinated.  Then he got the other one out and when it stopped he vacinated that one like the previos one with the 243.  Using a rifle minimizes one's risk of getting infected.

    I always named my male goats after prominent politicians. (For those of you who have ever been around male goats very much you will understand! )
