My hip pain is definitely on the side right where you can feel the joint with your hand, so I will take some advil and whine about something else  :).  I have been a little worried about it as my Dad had both hips replaced and after hearing about your travails, Dr.B.

MM,

You were getting around pretty good at the Roast, but that might have been due to some of that Raider Bill Lemonade  ???  ::)  ;D  :D  ;)  :-\.  (I got a lesson in smiley production from Meadows Miller at the Pig Roast, so I thought that I would practice a little  :) :) :) :) ;) ;) :D ;D :D ::) ::))

thecfarm,

I told a grits story about you at the Pig Roast.  You had better come next year to protect your honor and to protect your anti-grittyness  :D.  Us Southern boys might corrupt the Northern food chain  ;D.

If it goes away, don't worry about it.

That is the diagnosis that I like.  Yes, it will change around a bit, quit, and then hurt differently next time depending upon my activity or inactivity.  Sitting and driving has really aggravated my old bones.

We made a good loop through Northeastern Michigan ( not U.P.) yesterday and saw some beautiful and unusual sights.  I had to "walk off" that right hip when we got back to Harrison.  Today will be another trip in a different direction.  :)

Well, I think the problem in pinning down the problem with aches in old people who have done a lot of physical work is that it may likely be more than one problem :(  I've had a couple of rounds with sciatic nerve damage know how it feels and that it takes a long long time to go away.  That's the cramping feeling in the butt, and numbness in the legs sometimes down to the toes.  I had X-rays for a stomach problem one time and the technician said she didn't see any problem. but she asked if I knew I had arthritis in my hips.  I assured her that I did.  Everytime I go up a step I am reminded :(  What helps me is to put my wallet in my front pocket while driving,  taking frequent breaks on a trip, taking aleve when I need it.  If I could lose about 20 lbs.  I'm sure that would help also.

I deleted a comment about preventing these problems before I even posted it because some people don't understand my sense of humor and might have thought I was serious.  It was about 'that Danged Aberham Lincoln' ;)

Years of hard work do take their toll on our bodies. I had to go see my GP and was commenting it started when we were doing hay and got worse a week later doing much the same. She looked at me and stated why do you do that to yourself especially at your age. I had several comments on the tip of my tongue but bit hard on it instead.  :D

SwampDonkey

They always say it's good to talk it out Norm.  :-X :D ;D

We made another round today in Northern Michigan.  Mackinaw City area and Mackinac Island.  Those 1½-2 hour drives are not as easy as they once were.  Eastern U.P. is tomorrow's destination.   :)

Be careful over in the eastern UP. Jeff's bear is over there and it will make you forget about the sore hip.

You could always retreat up Jeff's tree stand, but I'm not sure there isn't a hornet's nest in there or if the door will keep the bear out. The stand isn't far from the bait station. :D

what ya need  is one of those heated beds to lay on.  you plug it into the 110v.
i forgot what they are called, it has around 300 jade ceramic tiles in them .  my mother bought one from the timber frame guy (dave) who built her cabin,  also was a licenced massage therapist in long prarie

those uv beds are weird, it heats you from the inside out.  after bout an hour or so, all your muscles are relaxed! even tension headaches are gone.

Bad part ... over $700

It looks like when I sit for maybe 30 minutes or more, my hip bones must be pinching a nerve or cutting off blood circulation or something.  When I stand my leg can hardly hold my weight up.  When I walk a bit the pain subsides.  This has begun in the last couple of months.

If I had to guess, it sounds like spinal stenosis could also be the culprit.  You need an examination.
My father once said, "This is my son who wanted to grow up and become a doctor.  So far, he's only become a doctor."

Magicman

Yup, I guess that I had better get checked out.   :-\    Whatever it is needs to be identified.

"Spinal Stenosis Pain in Older Patients

Spinal stenosis is related to degeneration in the spine and usually will become significant in the 5th decade of life and extend throughout every subsequent age group. Most patients first visit their doctor with symptoms of spinal stenosis at about age 60 or so. Patients need only seek treatment for lumbar spinal stenosis if they no longer wish to live with significant activity limitations, such as leg pain and/or difficulty with walking."
