No worries Doc, I deserve some razzing in this one. At least it was an easy fix 😝

My daughter bought these for me probably 5 years ago. Only wore them a couple times just never thought to put them on. Worked in the woods when younger and cut firewood all my life and never had them.
Well yesterday I had some locust to cut down to make raised garden beds and for some reason decided to wear them and this happened.
Luckily was coming down to idle. I will be wearing them from now on for sure.
Guess the one above was watching out for me.
I recommend everyone should wear them. It can be the difference between a good day and a bad one.

Lko67, I keep thinking I should buy a pair.

I am over near Warren Pa. Do you get elk over your way? Looking for someone to point me in the right area to look for sheds. Or is it mostly private land?  Thanks

Well, you should be posting in the did something smart thread.  I have chaps and don't wear them all the time, but wear them a lot of the time.  I need to buy some chainsaw pants to have too.  I'm sure they would be nice in the winter too, even if just to keep me warm.  I wear my chaps when weed eating in the summer too.  If I wear tall boots and the chaps I can keep my legs clean.

In my younger days chasing landing under a 100' Berger tower, I glued inserts inside of my tin pants. I bumped knots on 10-20 loads a day and never got into my legs. Now I only wear chaps when I'm limbing, but every time I start a saw. The little voice in my head asks "where's your chaps dumby?"

Tacks
I'm in Clinton county about 45 minutes from main elk population. A lot of ground is posted. Game Commission book is probably easiest way to find places not posted.

OnX hunt maps will show you land ownership and property lines. I recently purchased BaseMap and so far I like onX better. Accuracy of property lines can vary with the overlay, so they are only for reference.

I'm assuming the close-up photo shows chaps and the pulled thread the chain marks.
I don't go without the chaps on. 40 years ago this year just prior to leaving for a CO 2-week elk hunt, I locked up my saw chain in my chaps when the running chain caught a small branch and the chain hit me just above the knee cap. Saved the day, the elk hunt, and won't start the chainsaw without them on (3rd pair now as I replace when they get worn, dirty, or marked up).

I'm on my third pair as well.

My first set of chaps were a Christmas gift AFTER I had a kickback into my shin that required emergency surgery to fix.

I learned the hard and painful way.

Not only wear them, but wear them the correct way.  They need to be fastened snugly around your legs as they will walk into the chain and pull the chain into them at the same time, so if they are floppy and loose on your leg the chain can pull them around and still get you before it stops.  This is a bigger issue with apron style chaps over full wrap.

Lee, have you healed up yet?

Mine was minor and should only come to fruition now that I replaced it.
The check engine light went on in my wifes car, you all will remember her favorite deer hunting Honda. It reads that the rear O2 sensor is kaput so for a week now I have been tossing the shop looking for the tool. She of course is hearing all kinds of ominous sounds because of that light bulb so I gave in and bought a new tool for it yesterday. Well, anything to do with old cars and exhaust is just about a losing battle but with some careful angle grinder work and a plain old box end wrench I had it R&R'd, in a mere whole afternoon  ::). I'm figuring about 48 hours till the old tool surfaces and they crawl off somewhere to hide  :D

My problem is chalk lines.  Every project seems like I have to buy a new one.  I must own 5 of 6 but only know where the new one is.  I'm glad they aren't expensive.

Don't mix the orange and blue chalk thinking it will be an easy to see color.  I have re-filled that one I don't know how many times and it still manages to only grab that mixed stuff, of course that is the only one we ever find.

Blue chalk has nothing on hi spot blue

That stuff gets everywhere and doesn't wash off easy.

One of the golden rules, red is permanent, get the new guy off the concrete with that red box!

We would snap in blue and correct in red if there was a mistake. Red trumps blue, or something like that.

Caulking guns are my nemesis, I have no idea how many I have, but it seems that I have to buy a new one every time I need one. I bought a new one a few weeks ago, just so I could find one I already had. It worked! I found 2 more 👍🏻

Things like torx bits and drill bits I buy regularly. I misplace them, and only when I do a full shop cleanout do I find all of them. I've learned the hard way to have extra's handy when a project comes up, rather than waste an hour walking in circles searching. ::)
And chalk lines... don't use them anywhere around drywall you plan to paint white. :o

YES, I still have a red chalk line on the back side of my leanto that's been there exposed to the weather for 8 years now!

I had another Forumite make some cedar fence boards for my niece. Her husband hired a crew to put up the fence. They used red caulk to mark the screw lines. A power wash probably would have cured the issue if nephew didn't seal up the fence first with some clear oil.🫤
