Old Greenhorn

You folks are posting a lot of old memories. I was always a little off beat when I was younger (OK, I still am) and this tune stuck in my head forever.
DEAD SKUNK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD - LOUDON WAINWRIGHT III - YouTube

Well 45 years after it came out (1973) and was popular for a while I actually had the pleasure of meeting Louden at a festival I was working at. Really nice guy. 6 Months later I saw him do his one man show at a local club and it was terrific. His kids are artists too and most enjoyable.
I have resisted posting here because I know once I get going I have a hard time stopping. Especially when it comes to artists I have gotten to know.
Anybody remember this guy? Both he and his lovely music photographer wife live about 4 miles from me.

Lovin' Spoonful - Summer In The City (1966) - YouTube

John is a great guy and still making great music these days. Mostly he lays low publicly, but locally he will pop uo from time to time. Mostly he plays mouth harp which is where he started as a kid, but I love when Maria Muldaur does a local gig and he backs her up. It's a killer duo. Here they are playing a benefit gig for the local library. Maria melts me into a puddle when she does this tune, every-dang-time.

John Sebastian, Maria Muldaur - Woodstock NY Library Fair July 23, 2016 - YouTube

John and Maria were together in the Even Dozen Jug Band in the early 60's before John formed the Lovin' Spoonful and have been close friends for a very long time. But I'll stop here before I get into anything more boring.

Oh, so it wasn't the 'snappy dresser' thing. :o >:( I think you mean this photo?

I suppose I had that coming. Not the first time it's happened. :D :D

Kristofferson wrote "Sunday Mornin' Comin Down", "Why Me Lord", "Me and Bobby McGee", and many other songs, and probably sung "A Boy Named Sue" with Johnny back in the "Highwaymen" days. It was actually written by Shel Silverstein and first performed by Johnny on the live at San Quentin album in 1969.
IMHO, Kristofferson was a much better songwriter than singer.
