One of our guys drove the fuel truck through the Massey tunnel south of Vancouver, that caused him and the company some grief

This is a little hard to explain but back in the day when motor cars became really popular as recreation Southeast NY and Western CT designed and developed roads intended to be used for pleasure driving, taking the family out on a Sunday drive. They were alike parks with select trees and shrubs, mowed lawns, beautiful stone laid overpasses. These were never intended for heavy traffic, let alone commercial trucks. The clearances on many bridges were under 12 feet. Consequently they are for passenger cars only. These roads were also designed for cars that couldn't possibly reach 50 MPH on their best day. Over the decades these roads became death traps at high speeds because of how they wind. The park-like maintenance has also gone down in recent decades due to budget cuts. Some on Long Island look absolutely terrible and are in very poor shape. From time to time a sleepy tractor trailer will happen onto one of these parkways and rip the top off the trailer, or worse.
The time for these has passed, but they still enforce the 'passenger car only rule'. If you sneak on with a pickup with commercial plates (which every pickup in NYS is supposed to have regardless of use), you get a ticket.

well made the second mark on my log stops.  It was getting dusky, and the sound was nicely complimented by all the sparks.  I was watching the right side to make sure I missed the clamp.

In CT we have only one parkway as far as I know.  The Merritt Parkway.  Signs at the on-ramp say prohibited-commercial vehicles, trailers, combination vehicles over 7500 lb GVWR.  In CT a commercial vehicle has a GVWR over 26000# and is used in business. A trailer is a trailer.  A combination vehicle is a license plate designation says "comb" on it which means combined business/personal use as opposed to passenger plate, that's what mine has and many pickups are registered with that plate.   So many pickups have over 7500# gvwr which my F350 has and I cant drive on that parkway, with or without towing a sawmill.
Cross over into NY and there are many more parkways.   Problem is that if you use phone mapping that will put you on a parkway and you dont pay attention when you map a route you'll be directed to a parkway and when you realize that you may have been directed quite a ways out of your way.  And it's not always easy on a phone to get it to map an alternate route where you take I-95 or a state highway instead.
Occasionally I get on a parkway during travel with the jeep and it's not everything it is cracked up to be.  Feels like going somewhere where I have to wear a tie and cant wait to get out of there.  :)

There are several Fire departments along the St. Lawrence river that have marine units (fire boats) that respond to island fires. They all have the same (unwritten) motto "we haven't lost a foundation yet!" (understand that responses to island fires take time. The crew has to get interior gear from the firehouse to the dock, transfer it to their boat, then respond at (maybe) 35 mph for up to 20 miles sometimes more if it's out on the lake.)

I think if i trimmed a bit more off the first one then I could start on the second one.  sadly, I left them up a bit to situate the remaining cant, but only needed the hooks to hold it as i had a nice 90° edge.  It was not as painful, and I smiled a little as i knew I would get to share this with you all.  God bless America!   usflag

I can't remember the guy's name  ::) but I heard about a guy one time who thought his chainsaw had locked/seized up and took it to a friend who had a small engine shop and found the chain brake was on and that was why the chain wouldn't roll. I sure wish I could remember that guys name. ;D
I started out around the house with an older homelite with no chainbrake.  My first time cutting for someone else they offered me the use of their much newer saw and then left for work.  I had the exact same issue but I called a shop and saved the face to face embarassment.  Anybody else remember trying to use the push button oiler when it wasn't there anymore?  My newest saw has one it is in addition to the automatic oiler.  I've come full circle but now I never remember to use it.
There might be a little dust on the butt log, but don't let if fool ya bout what's inside

Seemed like "in the heat of battle" when you need oil the most I would be focused on the cut and forget to oil till I saw smoke rolling. That old solid mount Craftsman had a built in sharpener too  :D.

Yes, very often we save foundations when we DON'T have to take a boat to get there.  We have some areas where we can't take big trucks to get to houses.  I have been involved in saving some foundations there.  One particular spot has been talked about many times as to what we might do if if a fire were to occur there.  We would have to drag hose across the little bridge and take our smallest truck which carried 500 gallons of water.  Of course that truck took a while to get there.  I dragged 5" hose across the bridge with my staff truck to the first turn and then I couldn't drag it any further.  Then I made trips back and forth across the bridge to get all the 3" hose off of trucks and laid it further up the road.  After about 3 trips to get about 800 feet of hose each trip we finally got more water to the foundation.  The county has since built a new bridge that we can drive over.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the MS880 and 3120XP may still have manual over rides, it has been some time since I have seen them. We have a fairly new subdivision that was refused fire protection because some bureaucrat who was not an engineer and hadn't taken the time to even drive out to see the bridge determined it was unsafe for heavy vehicles. ::) A Bailey bridge has been installed while a new one is built so the residents are safer.

Now don't laugh! I tore down a chain saw yesterday. Blew it off good and did some work on it that needed done. Piddled around a while and finally got it all back together. Fueled it and was going to fire it up. Light bulb went off in my head. I had forgotten to remove the wad of paper towel I had put into the intake throat. Well, I guess I will be faster at reassembly this time. ;D

880 doesn't. If it does it's hidden and I've never seen it in 5 years.

Yeah, GPS is not perfect.  I have lots of people coming to buy from me, but GPS takes people on the wrong driveway.  My neighbor's driveway is in the woods not far from my house, so GPS takes people down that driveway.  They get right behind my pond and it says you have arrived.  His driveway is about 1/4 mile long.  It sucks for him to have people showing up at his place which is supposed to be off the beaten path.  Now I give my address, but with a long description to not trust GPS and make sure to find my mailbox with my address and orange sawblade decals on it.  I don't want to have any kind of sign with my business name on it, because I don't want people showing up unannounced.
Drop them a pin in Google Maps to get them to your location.  That's one of the best pieces of technology for me in the last 20 years.
